IV. BOWSPRIT and LAYOUT

July 15, 2011

This starts the beginning of building the BOWSPRIT. I wanted to take a break from the mast for a while. I only have the FOREMAST to make after this.

Enjoy !

Continuation of Bowsprit. I learned from various resources and freinds that the notches for the Bowsprit Gammoning ropes are not correct. However, I have found resources that support both. For the time, I am making my choice to stay with the notches. I also see that that Montanes Kit from OcCre also supports the use of notches on the Bowsprit for the Gammoning ropes.

Bowsprit Rigging: My intentions here are try to demonstrate one step at a time how I rig my hearts / blocks, ect. In these images, let me say that I am not claiming that I am correct in the way that the seizing is done. I am just saying this is the way that I choose to do it.

In the second photo you see that I am mearly holding the heart block with the rope in position and the next photo I applied a very small amount of CA on each side of block and then pressed the rope and squeezed the end and let it dry.

If you want to try this style, that is ok with me. Good luck in the way you choose to perform your rigging on your Bowsprits.

The Bowsprit top cap is very confusing on the instructions. As the plans indicate 3 eyebolts on each side of the topcap. However, the plans also indicate as well as the photos in the instructions that there are only two eyebolts on each side. I have decided to rig only one single block for the center eyebolt at this time until further study.

Also, please note that the demonstration of my rigging of such Block does not mean that I have full knowledge how to rig a block. I am showing these steps for a few reasons. I just want to demonstrate the method that I choose. You are welcome to borrow my method if you wish. This method is a little tedious, but once you do one, you will be satisfied of its structure.

Enjoy !

Continuation with Foremast Tops contruction. Procedure is the same as others. The black wire is .58mm that I bought from Model Expo. This procedure I guess is more functional than appearance. I honestly tried several ways, but this is what I decided on. I am not just 100% happy with it, but it is ok.

I decided to insert the Foremast, Mizzen, and Bowsprit into ship to give a sense of accomplishments. My photo shot box will be modified soon b/c it is now not tall enough to allow for the Main Mast. The shot box will need to be about 6 inches or 14 cm taller. After the Foremast, then Rigging the deck and Rigging the Chainplates are next.

These next photos describe the fact that it has been a long time(almost a month since I updated). I continue to work on the Foremast and the following photos present the final completion. The Foremast and Mainmast are so much identical, just one or two blocks omission or deletions are all. Basicall, since I see the plans are the same, I used the Mainmast as an example to go by.
I hope that the following photos are of help to those that have this particular ship. I have been asked on occasions about the contruction of the tops, ect. I am only following the plans from OcCre - as my lack of experience and knowledge about the details of the mast and mast tops will not argue the plans.
So, therefore, I am building per kit instructions.
