Those are very nice looking carriages Donnie. Now, are you going to super detail them? ?

Sometimes it's necessary to go a long distance out of the way in order to come back a short distance correctly.

pebbleworm and Dave,
thanks for the reply. I thought about milling out the steps in longer strip fashion and then cutting them out, as this would produce many "sides" at one time. the problem I faced was gluing the pieces. I guess I am glutton for punishment.
I am still undecided - these carriages do actually come very close to some real plans I have, BUT, they just look too thick and bulky for some reason. Right now, its just a prototype. Actually, I probably should not be spending this much time on them since I don't even know what the "deck to port" distances are.
I am not going to make all of them until I see what that is. I would not want to put these on a deck if they look too big anyway. To me, they look a little too tall in height. The walls of the carriage seem just a tad too thick. The wheels look they came out of some stone age era.

Why go to all that work?
Just make a master and cast the rest.

Certainly. But:
1) I want them all wood.
2) I want them to look very real to scale
3) I am a glutton for punishment :) ?
4) I am getting better at using a Mill ( I think ) ?
5) some ohh and ahh factor when I am done ?

Enjoy !

HI Paulv
I am doing this 'just in case' I do not like the ones that come in the box. I have not officially opened the contents. I only opened the box to see if the paint that I ordered was in the box and nothing looked damaged and I closed it back for Christmas time. This also just gives me something to do , just to see if I can do it. I see a lot of top notch ship builds out there that I know that folks must have made their own carriages. So, I just thought I would try.
this is a prototype and I will just wait and see - I am sure that the carriages that come in the box are going to be metal. When I built the Trinidad, they were metal and also the wheels and everything was one piece metal and looked really bad - I said that this was one thing that was going to do different this time around and have decent Carriages and Cannons.

This thread will be great to follow! I have the san felipe by panart myself on my shelf. I was thinking it might be next build after the black pearl.
Not only is it great to have another log to look at while building it. But its even better when it was done by a very good builder. I saw your other log about the santisima trinidad and that ship is just amazing!
Cant wait too see what your about to do with this kit!

Another Donnie master piece out tha gate.
I love the lines of this, one of the most beautiful Spanish Man of War ever built.
I am eyeing the same vessel, as kitted by ZHL.
I have not had a kit from China, but have heard this
mfg's product is 1st class.
