The Space Ship

I started this a few months ago basically because I couldn't find a model spaceship that I wanted or was big enough to become a sculptural piece.

So these foam boards are the form work to the front shell. I decided to split the model up into 4 parts for ease of construction and transport.
So from the top the main section I'm posting on is section 2.

Started the ribs. I haven't any plan on this model... it is completely conceptual and in my head ... not saying that's a good thing... :s
Then I laid on a first thin layer of panels... this is not the finish top layer.

First photo gives you an idea of its shape for the front of the ship... its vertical in nature and will stand about 1.2m in height when completed.
Second photo shows the second layer of planking started... this eventually will be sanded to a smooth curved surface ready for the final layer of raised panelling shapes and details.

Just slowly blocking in and adding as I feel... as I said no planning with this it's just in my head overall look and the rest is on the fly....

Back to work after lockdown so progress now is a lot slower... but all good, always fun to grab 30 mins here or there in the evening to do some more.

The above photo is a shot of the rear section underway to date... with the front section roughly sitting in place. This rear section will become clearer in time.... hopefully
