Willem Barentsz by Kolderstok AD 1596

Hope you feel soon well, Jan. I got sick and tired after the second shot. I wasn't feeling about 3 months not fit and wasn't myself. The booster I said thanks, not for me. I'm think like Heinrich about it now. A lot of mixed feelings.
The boosters have been quite the discussion point here also. Lots of Pros and Cons. BUT at my young age and with a compromised immune system and other medical faults, I think I can manage the discomfort. Besides getting the booster will stop the Admirals “Ya da, Ya dada”.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Oh, Boy. So much hobby and so little time:

I had to switch gears while my other build had paint drying.

So I added balsa filler pieces between Bulkheads one and two. Which leads to a question for Heinrich.

@Heinrich, I know your idea was to add cannons in the stern, so you didn't add any filler blocks in this area because of that???

The last item for today. The Heinrich innovation for the stern keel piece.

The holes are drilled for the final alignment and mounting of that piece of the keel. I've yet to mill out the bottom of the piece to allow for the three planks. Heinrich I think that gets me to page 8 or 9 of your WB log :)

Hi Jan - oh boy ... now I have to owe up to my deficiencies as a builder. I did attempt to add filler blocks at the stern as per Piet's build (the intended placement of the cannons did not play a role there), but after I had done that and did the fairing of the filler blocks, I wasn't happy with the line or flow (see the green line) between the last two bulkheads leading up to the stern. That is why I ended up removing them. I am sure you won't have an issue with that so you can gladly add them if they are of help to you. As I said, I wanted to add them but messed up.

The part where you have to mill out the 12mm for the planks that run right through to the edge of the keel: Here I have to owe up to a mistake I made in my log. I said the milled-out area will accommodate three 1.5mm x 4mm planks. Please note that I had brain fade there. The 12mm should not accommodate three 1.5mm x 4mm planks, but two 1.5mm x 6mm planks. The 12mm remains the same, the effect is the same, but the plank width and number of planks were wrong. My apologies!

My apologies!
Heinrich, no apology required. I’m just bumbling along in my usual fashion and I’m delighted that you can share the pros and cons of your of your build. Before I started today I worked my way trough your WB‘s log on the Dutch site as well as Piet’s WB log. There is a lot of information to absorb.

The good news is that I handled that little ship most of the day and didn’t break anything

Excellent - you are now growing deft fingers! ROTF

Those were hardwood Jan, but I suppose balsa will be just as good. Just remember that you don't box the mast hole closed. Box around it.

@Heinrich, another question.

Before I glue all this together, I think I interpreted Piet"s log correctly, the bottom of frame 11 at the red line needs to be trimmed square so it's even with keel notch??

Great day today:

My day so far. Glue Balsa pieces between frames 9 and 10. While waiting for glue to set head to basement and paint the the sternwheeler pieces. While waiting for paint to dry, the glue to set and being in the basement took some time to rearrange a siding spur on the railroad,

Checked the paint job, hmm, still tacky. Checked the glue job, that looked good to go.

So it was out to the porch to do some sanding.

An hour or so later the Admiral asked if I wanted some coffee. Hah does Bear s... in the WOODS. Off we went to Dunkin Donuts ( had to replenish our coffee supply). Oh wow, this happy camper not only got a cup of coffee to go, BUT also scored a Boston cream and two jelly donuts.

So there you have it. Little bit of shipyard work, a little bit of model railroad work and we helped a small business improve its bottom line.

So that's it for today. Tomorrow I'll finish the sanding, do the second coat of paint, maybe a little railroad yard work and strongly hint that a cup of coffee "To Go" wold be nice. :D:D:D

I also did laundry and in the process, washed my Huawei mobile phone! Washing machine 1 - Huawei 0. Your filler pieces look great Jan! I am glad that you got those to work.

Oh no. I'm not allowed to touch the Admirals washer or dryer. Something about separating colors before loading the washing and taking small tools out of pockets before putting dirty clothes in the laundry bin.

IndeedI think the filler pieces will work. I learned today that if I get the grain of the Balsa pieces all in the same direction it can be carved easily.
