HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Good morning

Thanks to Heinrich, Paul, Rob, Daniel, Ron and Roger for you encouraging comments.

Daniel I will have to get the local handyman to fix the rail in my dinning room ROTF....and Paul the bubble wrap is legendary.;) I actually enjoy the little bubble wrap stand as I can easily lean the Victory over to port or starboard and swivel it around anytime I choose. Not pretty however is way more versatile than a fixed stand/holder. Almost as good as my LEGO serving machineROTF.

Those close-to-perfect lined up dead eyes are truly mesmerizing...
(As is the rest of this rigging job, but that goes without saying.)
 
Good morning

Jumping jack Grant at it again. Needed a break from shrouds and stays so fitted the Main topmast yard.

This yard is fitted with Parrals and a tye.

Another of Grants homemade Parral :

The tye runs through a double block (with the bunny ear 3mm blocks for the buntlines) on the Centre of yard and back up to the single blocks at the top mast. Both port and starboard run through the one double sheave block.

The tye then travels to a tackle and pendant. The pendant is fixed to the aft of the main channel. It runs through a 5mm double block and a 5mm single block as a pendant. Both for SB and PS.

These belay and tied off to a kevel which is between the quarter deck stairs and the cannon. NO KEVEL on Grants Victory ROTF .

I used the kit instructions here and no kevel was included. The Mantua rigging has the yard tyes completely incorrect very simplistic and the tye merely belays to the belay pin rack at base of mast. Mantua plans:

I will have to manufacture one.

I now have too many stays, tyes, topping lifts untied so I think it is time to do some fettling.

A true spider's web. Keep up good work because your're doing great. I suggest you to buy some milling machine. You won't notice when it'll be your third hand.

Good Afternoon Daniel. Your emoji is spot on...:p. I don’t think I will ever make ropes. What I will not do again is dye them either. There are some really good ropes to buy, the best is I just spend a load and buy plenty stock.;). Cheers Grant

Did try dyeing ropes once. It turned to be not very efficient; coffee/tea and combinations thereof, special ink for textiles, all no good.
Best bet is indeed to buy the ropes you need. Watch out or the fluffy ones...
 
Good morning. Very little work done this weekend. Loads of family time and even did my first MTB enduro race in 3 years. Loads of fun. Like my Victory build I even had an oops on one of the timed downhill ROTF .

I did manage to make the kevels this morning and fitted them on the quarter deck. The Mantua plans (as posted a while back) has the ladder to cannons very cramped and this was and interesting fit.

I love close up photos- I see my netting(my least favorite job on my Victory thus far) needs some trimming- out with the nose hair scissors again.ROTF. Cheers Grant

Good morning Johan. Yes you are right. The dye also changes the look of them and The detail thread work is not so visible on close inspection- especially the thread from the kit. Fluffing is an issue however some flame does take most of this off. Anyway it is what it is and we continue. Cheers Grant
