Ahoy there from shivering but gleaming Sydney!
Maiden voyage...
Having been working on and off for several years on detailing Airfix 1/87 Bounty. Good progress with hull and installation wooden deck plus detail as per AOTS HMS Bounty. However, I have realised that plastic yards and masts are too flexible (as well as ugly) and will have to be replaced with wooden ones. In interim i have been looking for rigging plans and was pleased to come across Chestcutter's very helpful post. However, i noticed there is no fig 13 but two fig 15s.... Any chance this can be remedied?
Many thanks in advance

Hi Pak75,

I think I have figure 13 too. It’s on the same sheet as Fig 5

Doh!!
Thanks Chestcutter! Will polish my telescope in future.
Today in Sydney have had to take down all sails and run before the wind under bare poles...

Welcome aboard mate. Yep, sure been cold and windy these last few days. Hope you enjoy the forums; it's a great site.

Thanks for warm welcome, didn't realise so many people from Australia on this site!
A question if i may:
AOTS shows some saddles on the lower fore mast and main mast caps. Does anyone know what rigging (presumably standing rigging) went over these saddles?

Hallo again,
IN german language the term ogf the cap is "Eselshaupt" means the head of a donkey ......

I found in the Jotika manual of the Victory kit (I was looking for something else) interesting sketches which is explaining these saddles - in McKay there is nothing....

Danke Uwek - that is very helpful.
As you say, nothing in AOTS/McKay.
The bigger question i have now is a golden oldie - how were the yards fixed in place on the Bounty?
I can see jeers on various plans and diagrams to support the yards but it is the holding of yards to mast which is the more problematic.
Truss pendants, slings or parrels? The parrels seem to be for higher yards.....
I have located copy Lees in State Library so will check it out in a few days.
In meantime, anyone have a view?
Thanks

Hi
Examined Lees at library today -very detailed, almost intimidating!
Could find only one reference to saddles as a fitting on bowsprit which supported another fitting. Only similar diagram was for mast top cap which shows lifts for yard arm wrapped around and under top cap as in diagram attached. Very close to the Jotika plans but these also show saddle as a means of yard fixing by a sling as well as the yard lift which i believe is not correct. Actual yards were held by Jeers and fixed close to mast by parrals and truss which permit change of angle of yard as required.
Picture is for education purposes....
On to next mystery
Cheers

Thanks for kind welcomes.
Another question…. Next mystery.
Apparently when in harbour or not under sail British warships lowered their yards.
Why did they do that?
Thanks in advance
