Trapped cat ship wreck!

Damn mate. That's a lot of damage. Hope you can salvage her.
I've had two models fall foul of our cat now; they really hate ships for some reason. ;-)
Not sure it can be salvaged without many hours and hours of work as every thing is so interconnected. The more damage you strip away the larger and more difficult the task becomes. I got to admit I have lost a bit of enthusiasm for the work it at the moment. I can't really blame the trapped cat it was just fate, perhaps it was destined never to be completed.

I fully understand your loss of enthusiasm ! Leave it be for a little while and come back to it later. :)

You are right there certainly is!

After several hundred hours my HMS Fly, was almost complete save for one piece of running rigging. However, fate had other ideas! Yesterday was a beautifully sunny Bank Holiday in the UK, which we enjoyed at a friends house. However, on my return I entered my garage/workshop to find my pride and joy wrecked and hanging from the handle of a vice. I never did see the culprit, but it had left its calling card in the middle of the garage floor, so there is no doubt I had apparently accidentally locked one of the neighbourhood cats in the garage and in its panic the wreck occurred.:eek: I had been looking forward to a new project, but it looks as if it has been chosen for me! Sorry about the quality of the image, but I think you get the general idea.

I hate cats...

Here’s an idea that I’ve used to repair this damage.
Build an open sided bow around the model.
The piece that runs across the top drill holes where abouts the mast are.
Run thread down thru those holes attaching the thread to the top of the mast.
Pull the thread up thru and clamp as needed.
Slowly unravel the rigging as you slowly pull everything back up right.
It does and will take time but you can fix this.
I’ve fixed a number of sailing ships over the years with this approach.

Now, as a contrast, my cat, Mable, is a great appreciator of my ships, always inspecting the day's work, occasionally finding & drawing my attention to a 'loose end' somewhere,

Cats are playful. I caught my dear Tom anxiously swallowing a piece of line I used to make my rigging.Very carefully, I slowly pulled the line so as not to hurt his exophagus and pulled out about 1.00 meters. Then he looked at me with love and gratitude.I suppose you love your cat as I loved mine, now deceased.Your boat is beautiful, but as another sailor says, there are now three stories mixed up on her.

You could name it as 'After The Battle'. ;)

Tom, the one in the picture with the armchair with flowers and a mallet, died at 19. He liked to inspect empty ship boxes; except for the swallowed thread, he never broke anything. Now I have Kato "snowshoe," who is very sweet and respectful.I wouldn't touch that boat of yours; it's like when Picasso accidentally stained a lady's dress and apologized, asking how he could make it up to her...The lady said, "Sign it!!!!"

Agreed…add some holes to the hull, a few scorch marks. Some appropriately sized dead people, and there you go. Bound to win first prize in a contest, especially with a diorama background! All joking aside, sorry for your loss…semper fi

Same thing happened to me many years ago, my first model ship, Cutty Sark from Billing Boats. My cat was hunting for flies or other insects and destroyed the rigg three times. The first two times I fixed it, but third time I realized it wasn't god's meaning for me to have this ship so I just throwed it to the floor and stepped on it.

Having viewed the carnage visited upon you has introduced a whole new level of disdain between me and our cat. That i didn't say 'my' is why it's still around for this whole new level of distrust and disgust.. That I share a small area in my shop for it's litter box augers further tenseness between us. The thought of claws getting tangled in the boat rigging on my bench causes further angst occasionally manifesting itself in trremors makijoyng mmy hakn;knds;l bl;kgklmmbjxz sds;.;/..

I had just finished a model of a Great Lakes freighter, when my three year old decided to explore a spray can of paint. Guess what got repainted?

Took me three weeks to clean and repaint. My Son survived the incident.
