Bluenose by Scientific

A great looking ship Robert and I've enjoyed watching you build her,

Cheers Andy

Andy - many thanks! I certainly learned some valuable skills with this little kit and look forward to getting started on my Bounty Launch. Here's to new adventures for all of us!!!

Fright you made a great build of this old kit. Very nice job.

Anthony - many thanks for your compliment and I am very content with how she turned out. This was truly a good learning experience in using blocks and rigging lines. As my 1st wooden kit, this was a 'special' build, which is why I used line from Syrene instead of thread supplied in the kit. The kit also came with metal blocks (most of which were deformed) and I decided to use wooden blocks instead. I ordered those from Latina. After looking at many photos of builds, I added my version of pumps, barrels, and rope coils to the deck. She may have some issues with accuracy but, overall, I'm a very happy camper with this schooner. Here's to many more adventures for us all!

Anchorman - For my 1st ship, I was pretty intimidated in trying to fabricate full sails but I did not want to exclude the appearance of showing her with sails. In doing a lot of researching furled sails, I came across this link that really helped me along with my furled sails. This gentleman really hits the mark with his work! Good read!!!

Thank you. Great link, I am going to try this on my Bluenose 2.

Hello,

I know this is an older post but thought I would check in for some possible assistance. I recently finished the Bluenose II by Artisania Latina. First model and it took about 4 month of Covid time which kept me in the basement, safe. First model of this sort.

Yesterday I was looking on our local swap site and someone was getting rid of a long since completed model like yours for 20 bucks. I bought it on a lark to see what I could do to rescue it from years in some very dusty place. I have managed to remove a lot of the dust but some of the rigging is trailing about or lying on the decks including a couple of the foot ropes that fell off.

It is rigged differently than the one I just completed and I was wondering if you still have the rigging directions for your model and whether you are able to scan the section dealing with the rigging to send me as a guide. Things on this model are very brittle and some of the sails are barely held in place. I can wing it but if you still have the instructions it would help me try and sort it out so I can make it somewhat presentable again. If I can do that I will be giving it to my 12 year old grandson for display at their cottage. Thanks, les

New member here. My uncle was an avid model ship builder and he gave me the Bluenose kit as a present many years ago. About 28 years ago to be exact. Unfortunately I never got around to working on it. Luckily I kept it after all these years and am just now starting to work on it. It will be my first build.

Hello,
You will see in an earlier post to this thread I was hoping to obtain a copy or file showing the rigging plan of the Scientific model to assist me in resurrecting a completed one I bought that has seen better days. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, les

Hello new BN builders!
Perhaps you have noticed, there is a Bluenose PoF Group Build her on the SoS:
/\-Click
It is correct, it is a BN from a other manufacturer.
But in the BN Main Support Page:
/\- Click
in the thread 'List of BN-kits', I have made a excel-file. (In a moment V1-15)
There you can find near to the bottom a list of other BN-builders. Only Scientific very very specific.
And also 2 links to web-pages where you can download a manual van other manufacturers. With perhaps details of the rigging.
So, perhaps this can help you?
And: It is also nice when you will start a bulldog of your build?
From building from kit's, there is this:
When you have specific questions, ask them in your build-log and I am sure you will get help.

PS:
@Fright : Sorry to come into your build-log with this post. But I saw the questions passing by. And sinds 2018/2018 there is a lot more added to the SoS.
@Anchorman : Perhaps you have still the PDF? To help them?
Regards, Peter

a small hint related to the uploading:
Please do NOT resize your photo before doing the upload here in our forum. Our software is doing an optimised resizing automatically. With this the jpgs or photos are better visible and have thier maximum possible size....
Your last jpgs are too small, so they can not really be read

No worries, I will retake the photos and repost. Sorry, I am new and just trying to help. Thank you for the tip :)
Your posting is of very big help....it is just a hint how to make it .....
Welcome here on board of our forum......
