Hello friends,
I spotted this kit on ebay about 6 months ago and it instantly grabbed my attention. I was considering another plank on frame model after my wonderful experience with the plank on frame Xebec model which is almost finished.

I was considering the Swan/ Naiad/ Warrior practicums and have the publications, but the thought of hundreds of hours cutting frames didn't appeal to me due to time restraints.

What could be better than a full plank on frame English 28 gun 6th rate ship all laser cut with Cherry ? The kit is by CAF models, a Chinese manufacturer and comes in 6 separate boxes.tb2icj5bnvzqebjszfaxxaf9vxa22670794.jpgpost-142-0-61603100-1363720011thumb.jpgdsc2720jpgthumb.jpgdsc2599jpgthumb.jpgdsc2248.jpg

I had seen the price on ebay and I contacted ZHL models and asked Max if he could source it for me at a cheaper price. I Also felt more comfortable buying from that company as I have purchased there before and have the assurance of payal. So I got a better price and the 6 boxes arrived 10 days later.

Photo below is a few of the boxes under my bench.IMG_2372.JPG

Hi Brian

Looks like another great kit,

Seem a lot of timber in those boxes.

Looking forward to see the Enterprise come together

Cheers
Geoff

Hi Brian

Awsome kit.

I see the translation is up to standard. Looks a lot like lego instructions! Just grinding, grinding... Try to mix...
Nice wood!

Hi Brian,

I will definately follow your build, this model is also on my short list. They have a new model out now from the HMS Bellona, unfortunately not full plank on frame but also very detailed. Can Max suply every model from China available at request? I am currently building ZHL Royal Caroline purchased via Max.

Ship model kit building made a hudge step forward since the Chinese are on the market with their own develloped models intead of plain copies. This is promissing a lot for the future.

Lots of succes with this really beautiful model.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Maarten, I did enquire about the H.M.S Bellona with ZHL and Max said not to buy it yet as theres only three stages available at the moment and the other three stages will be some time away. Also at 1/48 scale its too big for my limited space. But agree with with your comments, the Chinese are leaving everyone else behind in their development and manufacturing of high quality models.

Heres a few close up photos.
The first picture is the stem assembly with thin black paper glued between the joins to show up the caulking. It has not been fine sanded yet.

The second picture is a close up of the keel with scarf joins and a rabbet cutout for receiving the planking. The numbers on the keel will be covered over with the ribs and not showing after assembly.

Hello Brian,I can feel that this one going to be an awesome build too.

Been busy today, and glued up a few more parts.

This is the stern deadwood assembly under construction with black paper caulking between the joints. i will sandpaper and clean it up when the glue dries.

These small pincher clamps from Micro Mark are wonderful for holding odd shaped parts in place until it dries.
