This is my build log for HMS Fly which I started 3 years ago. It's my first wooden ship model and something I've wanted to do for many years since I used to roam about in the Royal Navy Museums in Portsmouth Royal Dockyard back in the 70s. I was serving in the Royal Navy at the time and spent many happy hours aboard HMS Victory. I was always amazed by the models on display, especially models made by prisoners of war during their incarceration.
Anyways, back to HMS Fly.....
After many months doing research on wooden model ship kits, I decided to take the plunge and purchased the Fly. In at the deep end perhaps?.
So here are some pics of the initial stages of the build.
The first thing I did was assemble the cannon before getting stuck into the first stages of the build.
I don't have a separate space to use so the kitchen table is my temporary workshop which can be a bit awkward due to domestic demands. I've no power tools so all work is done with files, craft knifes tweezers and a selection of clamps.
I am new to this website and I'm constantly amazed by the quality and skills of the models here and the fantastic job the builders are doing. it inspires me to do better. Any feedback or advise is always welcome - good or bad.
More posts soon.
