LA SALAMANDRE, bomb ketch - POF - (CAF-models, 1/48)

In light of recent events I want to highlight once more the design of this kit of the La Salamandre from CAF.

IMG_1607.JPG

Jean Boudriot prepared a detailed 2D-planset in scale 1:48 based on a contemporary 1:48 model, which is in exhibition in the Musee de la Marine in Paris.
This basis model is also shown in the monographie paublished from ancre.

The monographie / the measures of contemporary model was basis for Boudriot / the Boudriot frame drawings

See my planset review on SOS:

CAF prepared an own 3D-model of the complete model and based on this model they printed their 2-D drawings and prepared the laser cut timber.

Part I of this kit contents the framing and hull construction.
in my post #46 I mentioned already, that the frames of the kit are slightly different than shown in the ancre drawings

Part II of the kit, which I started some weeks ago contents the inside structure as well as the deck-furniture and mast, yards etc.
Also here CAF designed completely their own drawings.
This info I showed also already in my post #387 of this building log, together with an excerpt of the kit drawings

I compared once more the drawings and manuals of the kit with the ancre drawings - not one skecth or drawing of the Boudriot drawings was simply copied,
all the kit drawings seems to be based on the 3D model of CAF.

Thst is the same result I got with my Royal Caroline. It was completely done by Max and no way it are pure copies.

Thank you Uwek for making the distinctions between all of the different sources and the CAF digital model and the final laser cut product. My guess is that it will put the piracy nonsense to rest and we can all get on with building or living vicariously through your building :) Thanks again for sharing! I just went through the last hour sharing your build thus far with my son. He was blown away!

Many thanks to all of you for the kind words - highly appreciated Exclamation-Mark
There are so much great models of the La Salamandre existing - I hope to come once closer to this quality

If I see for example the beautiful scratch model built by @Michele Padoan - Wow!

Gold StarI am stunned and speechless. Gold Star

I do not know what to say to add more to what others have said. Uwe, you have done far and above anything that I could even wish for. I would love to have this model on my bench too, but I do not think I can do it justice, but I shall try one day to build it. You are very inspiring to me and to others here as well.

Hi Uwe,
Looks like you taking modelling very serious, and the output of your craft is telling itself. Earlier on your posts, you mentioned the monograph from Ancre (well knows for a great plans\books for ship modelling). So the question is how the monograph help you in your build progress if you are building by the kit instructions?
Also, you have mentioned the great wood quality in the kit. Is there any description of what kind of wood this kit supplies for timbering set, bort\starboard planking and deck planks?

best regards,
Jim

Hi Uwe,

Your build log is going viral. I was checking 4h model and to my suprise the guy behind CAF models is posting your salamandre blog on 4h model as help to the chinese to build the model. Step by step the blog is translated to Chinese and the pages copied. I thick you have grown to a ship moddeling professor by now as CAF is using your build log as an example.
Secondly it is good advertisement for Sos, I think the site is really growing at the moment.

Just to let you know, see the link below. Hope it works this time.

Many thanks for the info. Interesting, that the link to my log - but this was from the beginning my intention, to make the log very detailed, so ther modelers can learn from my positive and negative experiences.....
Unfortunately the link is not working, seems to be that you have to be a member in this forum....
