New kit of La Renommee from CAFmodel 1/48 scale.

WOW - many thanks for sharing this Info

It sounds like a POF - version with the mentioned "ribs" and the total price for all sessions plus two "upgrades"

Totally price is 1700 usd
there are 6 session totally
SESSION ONE: The middle rib is easy for beginners to make.
SESSION TWO: bow ribs are more difficult.
SESSION THREE: the stern rib is a little more difficult.
SESSION FOUR: keel and berth.
SESSION FIVE: main deck and main gun.
SESSION SIX: the upper deck, the whole ship carvings
A: inner structure upgrade
B: mast upgrade

but seems to be without masting and rigging, so maybe like the Enterprise?

Unusual that the first three sessions are for the middle, bow and stern ribs of the ship and the fourth is for the keel and berth which I assume is a building jig. Must be a new way of building the ship which I am not familiar with. Very curious to see actual photos or plans of the build. I have seen the same listing on Taobao also.

Uwek, I wonder if my skills can build something like this, I know from looking at the ROYAL CAROLINE. SALAMANDER,etc THEY ARE TO MUCH FOR MY SKILL LEVEL. LET ME KNOW YOUR OPION. Don

Hallo Don,
Everybody should build what he wants to build......
The Royal Caroline from ZHL is in scale 1:30 as a Plank-On-Bulkhead (POB) construction
and the La Salamandre from CAF in scale 1:48 a Plank-On-Frame (POF) construction.
So not really comparable.
I can only talk in detail about the Salamandre, due to the fact, that I am building her.......with such a POF kit you need patience and consume a lot of hours for the correct shaping etc. - I think more than for a POB model - f.e I consumed now appr. 300 hours and you can see where I am now, the frames are finished with more or less inside planking - so I expect another 500 to 700 hours to finish the model -> so definitely not a kit for the fast success.
And with patience you could build it - one remark on the Salamandre kit -> the manual and drawings are not really good, so it is necessary to dryfit much more than usual and also other research f.e. building logs (therefore I make mine very much in detail that others can get information for their built) and also the Boudriot plan-set
The Royal Caroline in this big scale is beautiful to make much more details on the ship - But I guess here others can give you more detailed information.....
Another possibility for POF would be starting with the Druid or the La Belle - smaller ships -> but I do not know something about manuals and plans

G'day Don
Give it a try! I'm finding the Royal Caroline not too hard, but you have to plan, then plan again and then plan again. Get everything right in your head first.

Hi Uwek, Have done a couple of POF models I like them better then the POB, will do POB build on ships I like, THE BEST BEGINER POF KIT IS THE CAUSTIC BY DAVE AT THE LUMBERYARD, INSTRUCTION ARE ON YOU TUBE SHOWING IN DETAIL THE BUILD, THE PLANS ARE GOOD ALSO, I STILL THINK MY LOG OF THE CAUSTIC IS ON THE MSB SITE, GO TO FORUMS AND SCROLL DOW TO THE CAUSTIC BUILD, THEN I DID THE HALIFAX LOG ON THIS SITE USING THE HAHN METHOD, BOTH TURNED OUT GOOD FOR MY SKILL LEVEL. Don

To ADC, I see you have mentioned TAOBAO, I have been trying to purchase something on there site for a long time when I get to check out they want shipping information but it is all in chinese and my GOOGLE TRANS LATER WILL NOT TRANSLATE THIS PAGE.THANKS Don

I find it difficult to navigate TAOBAO. It is a dogs breakfast of a website at least for non Chinese buyers to navigate and because of that I never bought anything from them. Maybe if it turns up on Aliexpress it may be better.

What a beauty, a pitty I cant acces the 4h site anymore. There should be more info available there as the owner of Caf is showing all his devellopments there.

Finally managed to get the 4h model site up and running again but could not find anything on the La Renommee. The guy of CAF is posting normally his new developments there under his alias CF2000. You can also find a lot of info on other caf models like enterprise, le requin, bellona, la belle, la salemandre. Unfortunately no renommee yet.

The Ebay seller has updated the listing with more photos of Le Renommee and now offers four sessions for sale but they won’t be avaliable for over a month. Seems like it is early days still for this kit and is not yet released. Taobao has the same listing but at a cheaper price. I hope it eventually shows up on Taobao focus or Alieexpress so that it may be easier to read.

Thanks for the update @ADC and @Maarten,
1) I can open 4h-page, but if I click on a topic it is not allowed/no access -> could it be, that only members can open them?
2) to the ebay offer: Strange for me is the actual pricing for the different sessions with 1 to 4 for 1.350 US$ which seems to me only the hull structure and 1 to 6 inclusive the carvings (but seems no masts, yards and rigging) for 1.700 US$
I still do not think, that the photos are showing models built from the kit - I guess they are all scratch builts

Looking forward

Are you back from your visit in China? - Did you find a big modeling shop? How was your shopping there?

Yes, I got back a couple of days ago. I could not find any modeling shops in Hangzhou. Its a big city with over 10,000,000 people and ran out of time. I bought some really nice small boxwood carvings. Boxwood carving is a specialty of the HangZhou area. There are many master carvers there and some carvings are unbelievable in quality and expensive. And it is great to see another La Salamandre build log here.D778F714-9CBC-4886-B644-2FD185D4AC2D.jpeg
