Hello to all, a few months ago I started this build already on MSW.
After 4 ships out of the box (kit) it was about time to build a ship from scratch. I decided to build the Creole Queen riverboat, a commercial paddlesteamer from New Orleans. On a scale of 1/82 the total length will be about 85 cm. I ordered some plans from Dumas for their RC-kit and started to draw my own plans. I will take a lot of time for this build.

Dumas drawings, nice but not for the hull

First of all Wim - thank you for posting your build on this site. It is much appreciated. I am sure that I will follow this and I hope that others will too on this forum.

You have a lot of courage to build from scratch - this is an area that I have not ventured into yet. I hope things go smoothly for this one.

Donnie

Interesting work station ... Lucky for the space given by your (lady) Admiral!
Also your ship is really interesting, I'll follow your job with pleasure.
Fair Winds,
Laerte

@Laerte
My lady admiral is very cooperative, I've my own room :D .

@Donnie
Maybe a paddlesteamer as next build Donnie? The ST deserves your attention now, she is beautiful already.
I just finished a plastic model of the Lunar Module Eagle and busy with the Boston lighthouse (Constructo kit). It is not always so easy to keep a kit closed: a few weeks ago this one arrived from South-Korea: http://koreakit.com/prestashop/product.php?id_product=12 . I really have to hide this kit  .

Wim,
I hope I am not repeating myself, but I cannot remember if I asked you where did you get the plans for this scratch build, or are you making this as you go along?

Donnie

Donnie,
No problem to ask for. I ordered the plans from Dumas of their Creole Queen RC-kit. Those plans are not really suited for scratch builiding (it is alse written on their website), but it were the only plans I could find. I had to draw the plans for the hull myself. I am not sure I am correct now with the hull but in my opinion the most important part of a riverboat is all above the hull and the paddle :D .

Thanks Sjors,
I don't think it's to much for you, but it is timeconsuming.
The advantage of Lego is that's it exactly 90 degrees and you can construct several shapes.

I am satisfied with the result up to now.

Wow ! that is very nice Wim. You are much more brave than I am to attempt this scratch build.

Donnie

Before I continue this log I have to apoligize for being away such a long time  :text-imsorry:

Thanks guys for your comments :D .

As I said before it was about time for sanding etc...

After several times of sanding etc I painted the hull black:

Before constructing the cabins I made a mal for the windows.

Thanks for the warm welcome back :D .

It's never too late for best wishes, the same for you, Anja and all other builders.

This week I will continue the build and will come up with pictures as soon as possible.

Just another update.

Made some doors and shutters from plasticcard.

A door near the paddle:

While searching on the www I found a new picture, this window was not known to me

So I had to fix that:

I wonder what that window would be for -- Humm perhaps an engine room to monitor the Paddles !?

Donnie
Nice to see you back Wim

Thanks for the nice words :D

In the meanwhile I have made anothe window at the other side.
I have no reference about that, but I guess there must be a second window.

Donnie, I also think those windows are made for monitoring the paddle.
