I am attempting to write a short Devotionals for Ship Modelers. My idea is for bi-monthly or once a week. Therefore I will start with the first one.

Philipians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Isn't it nice to be able to go to your workshop after a stressful day full of anxiety and to find your model just waiting for you to dive in ! It is very good that God has a way of installing within us desires to be creative. Just like God created everything, and he made us in His image, and therefore, we also have the ability to create too except on a little bit lesser scale of course !!

When you feel anxious, our models seem to have this temporary relief, but, remember, turn to God as he is always near waiting to hear from you, and He will always make things right for the long sailing trip ahead.

Nice Brother Building things is truly my escape from a hard days work. and at the end of the week I go into the woods for a day or three and spend time in gods creation. its a place I've been many times and it never ceases to amaze me the Beauty of it all. Its as if I went for the first time. I see Gods creatures interacting with each other and the environment and for that brief time I realize how truly free I am and how Magnificent this Planet is. I'm there to Hunt, but I'm easily lost in the Splendor and soon find myself at peace with the world I look up and God has sent me what I desire as if he to provide me with what I need to complete a Glorious session in my Church that is the Woods.

I understand the basic principals stated above and I can clearly get lost in the moment of Zen and what this or for that matter any hobby brings and that is the ability of the mind of man to create something from nothing.

however for the Agnostic

agnosticism is the view that human reason is incapable of providing sufficient rational grounds to justify either the belief that God exists or the belief that God does not exist"

“The Atheist asserts that there is no God, whereas the Agnostic maintains only that he does not know.”

The essence of Huxley’s agnosticism—and his statement, as the inventor of the term, must be peculiarly authoritative—was not a profession of total ignorance, nor even of total ignorance within one special but very large sphere. Rather, he insisted, it was “not a creed but a method, the essence of which lies in the rigorous application of a single principle,” namely, to follow reason “as far as it can take you,” but then, when you have established as much as you can, frankly and honestly to recognize the limits of your knowledge.

so an agnostic can not put faith in god but in what he sees, hears and touches. We are forever expanding, gaining knowledge and understanding but a concept as abstract as a god principal is far beyond anything we can even imagine. We have to deal with the reality of it.

didit I am in the same frame of mind sort of, where I'm not totally sure, but I've been through enough rough spots and 2 events that I cant explain in my life that at this point I need something to believe in. I study Sumerian text which is where the Bibles writings come from there are a few books that explain this and how its basically the same. I do also study science and think we could be here through evolution except they still have yet to find that Missing link which is odd since we can find dinosaur bones, so why is that link to man been so evasive. I for the time being think that the Sumerian writing is outweighing the evolution theory just a little bit. I need something to put my faith in since I'm incapable of doing anything about certain situations I've had in my life.

I was Brought up Strict Roman Catholic so I always fall back to God even though I have some doubts or confusion. I tell folks its ok to question where we come from, who our creator is and why things happen to us in life that we just cant readily explain. its ok to not believe in anything or in ones own ability to control what does or doesn't happen in ones life. I think for a lot of folks just having something to grab onto for security to feel good is ok even if that something doesn't exist. In the Past God was defined by a person or people who had power of others and that even fell into Objects that one possessed.

There is some writing about Columbus were his party landed and met with the Native people who were still in the Stone age the Party because they had superior weapons were viewed as gods by the natives. at some point its believed the Natives Killed the Party for wrong doings to the native people especially the women. so thinking about that The party were certainly not Gods however had they been good to the Natives its possible they would still be looked at as such. I really wish something definitive would be found I have a need to know a deep desire that I cant explain but it burns deep in my soul. I will probably not find out. so all I have is Hope its what keeps some folks moving forward in uncertain times.

DAVE and JOE, THIS IS WHAT IS CALLED FAITH, SOMETHINGS THE MIND CAN NOT CONCEVIE LOGICALLY, WHY AM I STILL HERE,(TRIPLE BY PASS< BLEEDING ULCER< CRIPLING ARTHRITIS<TYPE 2 DIABETIC, YET I STILL STAND AT 80, MIND STILL FUNCTIOING, still able to create as best as I can, AT ONE TIME I BELIEVED IN WHAT IS CALLED REALITY WHAT I CAN SEE AND WHAT I CAN TOUCH, but then someting HAPPENED IN MY LIFE THAT SAID THIS IS NOT ENOUGH THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT I CAN NOT TOUCH OR FEEL, THIS IS GOD TALKING TO ME, SAYING TRUST IN ME I AM CONSTANT I AM HERE AND I LOVE YOU, WHO GAVE THE SURGEN, THE DRs the ABILITY to cure lifes progression from the begining to now and onward, IT IS SIMPLY GOD. Me Don

A pity God turned his back on all the others who prayed and was not heard... like the children dying of cancer, or being beaten to death or suffering... The almighty surely seems to have limited powers. Save a few, let the masses die...

model building was always that sanctuary to escape to it is your space an Eden. time seems to stand still your mind is engaged in solving problems the world seems to fade away. There is that support group a brotherhood of like minded builders you can always turn to. However when that very space becomes frustrating, outside forces causing chaos and brother against brother, when you look at your model it takes on a different form, now it is a symbol of a war and not a peaceful indulgence to share with other builders, you become confused not knowing who is friend or foe.
The naked truth becomes evident time to move on find a new place to be.

from an Agnostic point of view

If there is a god he did not turn his back on anything nor does he reach down and fix anything. The key is in the words " god looked down and he said it is good" in the beginning everything was created at once past present and future. What you refer to is not the work or lack of work of god it is called free will we do it to ourselves and one another god has nothing to do with it.

I'm afraid you opened a very large can of worms with this thread

I agree this can go in any direction

this is an international forum and you will find all kinds of faith and beliefs represented it would be easy to step on someone's personal philosophies or beliefs a quagmire, quicksand.

the intent of Donnie is good and I think the premise is to respect the hobby as a place that brings pleasure to many people and it is the people that count the most not the "business" part of it. Regardless of what goes on just close the door and do what you want in your own personal space might be the message.

I guess I am the one to say it god has nothing what so ever to do with any of this and that is just MY point of view and not everyone will agree with it

I think we all respect one another here enough that no feelings will get hurt. You folks are the Best group of People I have had the pleasure of chatting with on any Model forum I've been a member of. Everyone has an opinion some are like minded some are not, that's what makes this world a beautiful place the differences between us the way we do things it makes for an interesting gathering and there is always something new to learn as a result of it. I have Great Respect for the folks here some of the skills I see are amazing. Most of all we are all Adults and from what I can tell a lot of us are Older adults we have learned to let things go because being worried about this or that only bogs down the mind and makes for sloppy work. I love you guys like Family here I have yet to meet one person here that I would call a butthole. If you think about that knowing we are a world wide stage that's truly magnificent. Ship building is unlike any hobby I have done in my life it takes the most patience of any hobby with the exception of fishing. Peace My Brothers

Well Said Joe, This thread could become volital, LET US ALL DO AS JOE SAYS, RESPECT, RESPECT and more RESPECT is what is needed on this topic, I will leave you with this QUOTE(IN HIS HEART A MAN PLANSHIS COURSE, BUT THE LORD DETERMINES HIS STEPS),,,,,,GOD BLESS ALL. Don

Well, so why pray? ;)
I am not referring to free will, children do not choose to have cancer, no one does... well, except maybe smokers... :)

I love this line: He who sups with the devil, must have a long spoon! As we pirate's say, "Arrr-men"
