Micro Shaper question

Clamp the scraper as close to the scraping edge as possible in a jeweler's vise or similar hand-held tool.

That seems to be a nice tool indeed @Bob Cleek . I found it's specifications online. The depth of the claws is only 15 mm (0.6"), while the shaper measures 35mm x 50mm (1,4" x 2"). Especially when using a slot on the short end of the shaper this makes it impossible to clamp it close to the scraping edge. Should I assume this is not a problem?

Excellent point which I forgot to address. If there isn't sufficient depth to the jaws of the jewler's hand vise, you can simply sandwich the thin metal scraper between two small pieces of stiff sheet metal or stiff wood and clamp the sandwich in the vise, thereby extending the stiffening support on the scraper. I did run into this when I used my hand vise of the illustrated type and solved it quickly in this fashion. Single edge "craft" razor blades such as pictured in this thread above are easily held in any hand vise without any need for stiffening.

Alternately, there are several different designs of hand vises. One of these should avoid the depth issue without the need for a stiffening sandwich... or not. :)

I have my own holder i made out of a small block of wood, a piece of acrylic, two threaded inserts and a pair of hex head screws. Now if I can just figure out which drawer I put it in. I know it’s here somewhere…
