Santa Maria1:48 (Pavel Nikitin)

I'm sorry Jan. I don't recall having any missing slots. I'd probably cut the 'tab' off the spacer and glue it right to the frame where the slot should be.

Do you have a build log?

Finished the chainplates

The wire looks so much better than the flat brass pieces. 2.jpg

I tried filing the flat brass hooks to make them look more realistic. But couldn't get the 'rounded' look. So I made them from wire.

Looking at the photos, the deadeyes are too 'shiny'. Will coat with a flat clear something.

I put the lantern and pole that sticks out of the stern on. That's everything in the instructions, except the guns which go on the hand rails and the ships boat. I had built one of Pavel's small ships boats. I set it on the deck and the deck is so over crowded as the boat takes up 1/2 of the main deck. May not put the ships boat on the deck.

The only remaining work is the masts and rigging. As mentioned by others, the rigging plan is not very good.

Maybe I'll make the small ships boat?? Don't know yet. This will delay working on the rigging!! ROTF

This ships boat kit comes with the Santa Maria kit.

Pavel has several small boats on his website. This is one I built that comes with the San Barrolome kit. I set it on the main deck. It takes up so much of the main deck that no one can walk on that side of the ship.l

Here's an image from Pavel's pictures of his model showing the ships boat on main deck.

Nice latern. Wow. If yer asking us, I would put the boat on deck ... every ship needs a boat.

Started to work on the yards/spars. There's a box of rigging parts numbered 7 - 18 of mostly rigging blocks. I'm trying to make a plan as to were these blocks and things go. The rigging diagram is pretty bare concerning information. I've color marked the blocks that are labeled on the rigging diagram to help. Not all the blocks are numbered.

All parts are numbered in the kit box. However, parts #8, 10, 11, 15 and 18 are not on the plans. So there wasn't much of a reason to number them. Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe Jan will point out it I am.

Wanted to put the cleats and chocks on the masts before I forget before I set the masts in place. I'm planning on putting as much rigging on the mast and put the spars/booms/yards in place before permanently setting the masts in place. The best I can, I will guess where blocks #8, 10 ,11 and 18 go in the rigging. They have block numbers, but these blocks have no reference on the rigging ptan that I can find. Will look for blocks on rigging plan with no numbers and try to match with these.

Oh my goodness Jan. I'm so embarrassed. I didn't even know I have that sheet of rigging. I can't keep up with what's in the kit. All this time I was worrying about just having the one sheet of rigging and it doesn't show a lot!! This is so much better. Thank you Jan.
Glad to help, there is a lot of information on those plan sheets, none which show in the build instructions.

Jan
