HMS Enterprise 1774 POF 1:48.

Grant those cannons look formidable! A broadside from the Enterprise will ensure Melkbos's safety against foreign invasion!

The combination of the friezes, the treenails and the effect of the linseed oil look wonderful my friend. There is a lot of depth in that picture.

Just more of the same:

More treenails - A few more and I’m done. :D . Just rubbed with a damp rag to show you guys.

More cannon :
Rounded the axles using a dremel insert which is the required size- a bit of a McGyverism.

The wetted wood and treenails gives a nice contrast, Grant. Wish you ‘a lot of energy’ for the rigging of those cannons.
Regards, Peter

Beautiful work Grant! Your treenails look great. You mentioned rubbing the area down with a "damp rag", so I'm assuming you dampened it with water. May I suggest using alcohol (any flavor), mineral spirits or lacquer thinner instead. You may have to be a little quicker with the camera since they will evaporate faster, but a solvent will not raise the grain of the wood, requiring re-sanding afterwards.

Those axles came out great ! As with everything else, fantastic job !
Grant those canons look awesome!
Everything looks just right, Grant!
Really nice process. Are these the barrels from the kit? Perhaps it's a question from light and perspective, but some barrels are looking twisted. I would replace them. The carriages are looking really great.

Grant,

Your treenail work is also spot on.....very impressive

Grant! This is why I love watching you make your magic!

Blessings. Peace. Gratitude.

I saw you ‘location-flag’ under your avatar an thought ……. VPN? Welcom to the Netherlands, Grant.

Nice to hear you visit Amsterdam. And remember, whatever the name looks like, they don't sell coffee.
Good morning Stephan. Luckily we have been more working than playing although a few of my staff looked rather green some mornings……must have the coffee ROTF .

Thanks Peter. I love Amsterdam but have not spent much time exploring this time. I have extended my staffs stay a little so they can have some fun however Im on my way back to Cape Town.

Cheers
Grant

It is super to see neatly rounded axles. Do you have more pics of the Dremel axle cutter you McGyvered? Sounds like it might be easier than making the cutters like I have made if you can get the right diameters.
Thanks Grant.

Good morning Allan. I used the original fittings that came with my dremel. These ones :

I then turn the axles by hand, gently, starting with the big fitting and tightening the lock unit as I go. Then move to the smaller fitting which by luck is the correct diameter for my axles.
Not perfect but certainly better than hand shaping.
Cheers Grant

Good morning everyone. I’m back in Cape Town after a hectic and very tiring week in Amsterdam. Too much work and not enough play to mark it down as super fun tho. Glad to be back home.

I did some more work on the cannon caps and extending the trunnion. I cheated a bit as I 3D printed the 2mm trunnion extension and the caps……hmmm.

I chose the worst carriage (it has a broken bit where the front axle fits) ,a bent barrel and hand rounded axles just to see how everything fits. This cannon will have to be hidden somewhere ROTF ROTF.

We did have a little fun while away :
Went to Keukenhof Gardens (very Beautiful), cheese farm, canal cruise and did a few tourist activities-
