Frigate USS United States 1789 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Frigate USS United States 1789 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Except for rigging the anchors and stowing the ship's boats on their davits, all the running rigging I will be doing is done on the United States. Here I have finished the braces, and the fore and main yard clue and sheet lines. The ship's boats are next.

Copper tiles - CA glue alternative

One of my ships. I use copper tape. I cannot properly simulate a nail head in 1/72 scale. It would be 1/256th of an inch to be in scale.

    Copper plating of a hull

Being "flush" the nail heads would have some degree of indentation into the copper. The reason for this is most likely that wave action across the hull could, over time, allow micro organisms to catch on the edges of the nail heads. Constant movement through the seas allows the growth to...

    Copper plating of a hull

I use the copper tape as well. Using a gray primer as an under coat. Somehow the chemicals in a primer react with the adhesive on the back of the tape. After a week or so you have to use a razor blade to get the tape off if you need to make any adjustments. Still holding up well on my first...

"Chains" for the shrouds on the United States are done. The chains for the stays will go in as I rig them.

Frigate USS United States 1789 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Would be a fun project. However I have no idea how or where to begin. I would be happy to make the attempt with guidance from your company. This version of the United States includes what I interpret to be how she appeared in April of 1861. She had a major refit in 1836 I believe? So her...

Almost all of the spar deck furniture on the United States is complete, a few things are not glued down, just in place for the photos.
