    Hello From Bonnie Scotland

...it slow and with the help of filler etc I think the end result is reasonable, considering the hull is painted finished. I also have the Thermopylae kit and I was intending that to be my next build ….. but I think I will go for either the Vanguard Fifie or Zulu. I’ll do this because I also...

Hi new on the block. I'am a beginner little experience. I have the Scientific Models Constitution kit# 300, and the Thermopylae kit 182. Any comments?

Yep, that’s the one I’m working on. I’m bashing the sails and rigging, though. My build is pretty much step by step. If you have any questions or suggestions, either pm me or post on my build log. You can click on the post above that says USS Constitution or look at my signature block and click...

Hi all. Thanks for the welcome. I am not familiar with the working of a forum yet, but not to old to learn. Ha, Ha. Question. What primer to use & do you prime all the parts that are going to be painted. I think I will start the Constitution first. Its been in the 90s here Clearwater Fl.

    Clipper Ship Build Thoughts

I fully agree that CS is over modeled. But I disagree that her and her kin were the most beautiful clippers ever built. Since CS is the only living fully restored clipper available to view…..we tend to fixate on her and mentally relinquish incontestable beauty upon her. Clippers found their...

    Clipper Ship Build Thoughts

...Possiblr the most beautiful clippers ever built were the composite clippers buillt on the Clyde and at Aberdeen. Take a look at Ariel, Thermopylae or Titiana and study MscGreggor's book The Trea Clippers. The Cutty Sark is now so well known and over modelled that you should not build her but...

    Scientific Thermopylae

Useing only the precarved wooden hull I sctatch built the balance. I was on a budget so It cost me $15 from ebay and the balance from all the left over scrap from 35 years of building.

Don't forget their redo of HMAV Bounty into HMS Beagle! The real ships in question bore no resemblance to each other. We also need to be careful with some of the PoB ships for the same reason. Bill

...one ship for another. USS Kearsarge gets a redo as CSS Alabama, USS Constitution is redressed as USS United States while Tea Clipper Thermopylae is a redress of Tea Clipper Cutty Sark. Meanwhile McKay clipper Flying Cloud  becomes Stag Hound! Sigh... but at least we also got some incredibly...

    80’s Scientific USS Constitution build

...ship models built and on display in the window. It inspired me to build others. I broke my hip earlier this year and had to undergo a hip replacement. There was a built model of the Scientific Thermopylae on display in the lounge. It was beautiful! I have two of them now in my stash. Bill

"Flying Cloud " by Mamoli - kit bash

I have both the Flying Cloud and Staghound kits. They, like their larger Revell Thermopylae are horrible representations. Some generic structures can be used as models...but overall, if you are a discerning model maker, bent on accuracy....much mods and scratch building will need to be...

"Flying Cloud " by Mamoli - kit bash

As I'm sure any modeler interested in the Constitution will tell you, the dilemma of depicting her accurately differs by what year or even what month of any given year of her long career.

...underwent modifications as well. I was in rehab earlier this year for a hip replacement. They had a completed Scientific model of the Thermopylae that no one on the staff could identify. I was able to identify the ship, the years that the kit was produced. etc. It was actually reasonably...

"Flying Cloud " by Mamoli - kit bash

Plans that I have for Flying Cloud all differ as to her deck furnishings. Two sets include a booby hatch crowded between the capstan and the coach house. They are so close together that it would be virtually impossible to access either. The Bluejacket plans have a cargo hatch in front of the...

I went on an Ebay binge and bought The Scientific kits you mentioned and a few others (With the intention that when my wife and are forced to face the inevitable downsizing and probably assisted living) that I'll have a stash of models that won't take up an entire basement workshop to work on. I...
