H.M.S. Victory by Caldercraft - Build Log

Hi Chris, Welcome to the CC Victory Club. Take your time and re read the plans & instructions over and over and then like me still make mistakes. Its a huge project that requires lots of think time. Took me over a year to do the coppering ( mind you that's lots of drinks & brain failure and...

    HMS Victory - CalderCraft 1:72

Cheers All. 2 more videos, Back to the fun stuff. Next comes the Cannons & rigging. Hi Traumadoc, the stairs were okay for mine with the suggested wood size 1 x 5 . The fitted perfectly, maybe I as lucky. I'll see how I go with the cannon parts. I'm down 2 x 24 Lb long cannons so have had to...

My Swing at Caldercraft HMS Victory

If possible make sure the shrouds are tight as you can get them. Apply the ratlines ( i used to do 7-8 line at a time), try not to pull the shrouds out of shape. I then normally apply a wash of diluted PVA to the rats, it dries flat clear. This stiffens them up and locks any loose threads. As...

    HMS Victory - CalderCraft 1:72

Greetings all, Were BACK Its been 20 months since I did an update. WOW, Guess other things in life go me distracted. Discovered Kickstarter BIG BOX board games, play tested games for developers & stuck on thousands of copper plates! I have to admit that copper plating is NOT my thing. To...

    Build Log - HMS Victory - Caldercraft-Jotika - 1/72

Hi Peter. Spit the hull lengthwise into several sections with planks that naturally bend to the hull shape ( Mine was bout 6 horizontal sections. The fill with planks tapering were necessary . I made my hull sections about 30cm max variable by bulkhead length and tapered them their while length...

    Build Log - HMS Victory - Caldercraft-Jotika - 1/72

Great Job. The lime wood is excellent to work with and sands nicely later. Start to taper the front boards as it soon needs it. A lot of the hull gets covered with 2nd layer, 3d layer whales and 3rd coppering, so just make sure the shape is good. The second layer is only really visible at the...

    HMS Victory - CalderCraft 1:72

Hi Morgan 63. The precision is great but sometimes it gets in the way and a little slack helps. Still that can be easily adjusted.

    Build Log - HMS Victory - Caldercraft-Jotika - 1/72

Nice to see another CC underway. It's a joy to build . I have not done much for the past 12 months or so as adding the copper plates got a little tedious and I got distracted with other hobbies. I've got about 500 to go out of the 3000 added. Just have to re motivate myself, but is summer here...

    HMS Victory - CalderCraft 1:72

Hi, it all worked out okay so far. The ports that needed adjusting( not all of them, and some only sightly) only had the bottom adjusted. ie they were elongated. This was corrected with the external & internal planking. As the adjusted ones have linings that go all the way through, not indented...

    HMS Victory - CalderCraft 1:72

No I did not do the Anchor stock, The whales no a lot of traversing of the Gun ports and even at this scale quite small. To do it in Anchor stock would be to much effort for verly little visual appeal once painted. If I intended to use natural wood, I might have considered it. Also the lower...

    Caldercraft HMS Victory 1:72 TonyH

True. Mine is a 2013-14 kit also. The only issues that i know of have been bad cnc cuts on the bulkheads, but normally only to one side where a strip of limewood has been needed to make them symetrical. Di the kit come with the leftover ply from the bulkheads - this will tell you. Whilst I have...

Give that you need to put the cross beams on in order, an some of these are skipped and they are covered with inner planking, I'd just make sue they are all level. My guess is bulheads were not seated all the way down initially measure against the 1:1 plans and adjust. The cross beans do not sit...
