    Bill Usually when you see something like 8/4, 4/4, or 12/4 it refers to thickness of the wood. This refers to a measurement in 1/4 inch increments i.e. 8/4 means 8 - 1/4 inch increments or 2 inches. In woodworking this is used all the time. Whether I get my lumber from a hardwood reseller...
