Mighty Mite Steam Powered Harbor Tugboat

I don’t have any ideas on lighting to share. I think this is a fairly general representation of a tug so researching similar real tugs might give you some ideas for lighting.

    Chaperon 1884 Stern Wheeler

Jan, it’s been a while since I looked in on your build. It is looking good. I think you are being hard on yourself re finishes. I am in the imperfect finishes add to realism camp. All your decks are looking great. I see you had trouble finding sandpaper but there are other papers that do a nice...

    Nauticurso Mighty Mite 1:64 Scale

I will let Bluebeard give you a more complete answer but the kit is available from Model Expo. They may have the drawings you are looking for available for sail.

Ha, you definitely need some space for that wing. It’s long and fiddly until it’s all together.

Chaperon 1884 Steamer by Model Shipways, 1:48 Scale [COMPLETED BUILD]

Thanks much for the feedback. This was my favorite build project to date. It’s a big model and finding the right place for it has been, let’s say, a challenge.

Chaperon 1884 Steamer by Model Shipways, 1:48 Scale [COMPLETED BUILD]

Thanks for the birthday wishes. After the Chaperon build I am looking at a smaller non ship project, an Occre cable car kit. No build log but I’ll post pics when done. Happy Holidays and New Year to all.

Not sure if you were using a flat or matte white vs a semi gloss which would shine a bit more. I agree the flat looks more natural. You can also put a coat of poly on it to make it shine a bit more.

Chaperon 1884 Steamer by Model Shipways, 1:48 Scale [COMPLETED BUILD]

Thanks Peter. While the end result is always nice to look at, the real enjoyment is in the “process” of planning, building and learning.

Chaperon 1884 Steamer by Model Shipways, 1:48 Scale [COMPLETED BUILD]

Quick summary of The Chaperon kit. Bottom line this is an excellent kit of an interesting subject. Paddle wheelers are certainly non traditional ships with interesting histories. Personally, I enjoy a variety of subjects to model and I really do not enjoy ships with heavy volume of rigging/rat...

Chaperon 1884 Steamer by Model Shipways, 1:48 Scale [COMPLETED BUILD]

With the stacks completed I was able to complete the build this week. This mostly consisted of attaching the life boats, loading platform and all working rigging. I had previously built the masts, lifeboats and other structures while waiting for my deck planking to arrive. This actually made the...

Just to keep sharp objects away from yourself while you complete this step.

I used white card stock on the back of the bends and left it there for further support down the line. This worked very well too.
