    HMS Alert by Olympic1911

Thanks all for your comments and likes! :) Much appreciated. When painting wood I prefer to work with oils. The problem with oil paint is, it takes ages to dry. Sometimes even more than a week. I particularly like deck-fittings painted white as they were often to be found in the early...

    HMS Alert by Olympic1911

Thanks all! @PeterM I should have done so during construction, it's too late now, I will have to leave the hull in natural wood although I have planned to paint various pieces. The handrail capstrips in black and wooden deck fittings in yellow-ochre. Here are some pictures from today...

    HMS Alert by Olympic1911

Thanks Uwe and the rest for your comments and likes. Here are some current pictures of my Alert: You can see here how I use thick cardboard wedges to hold down the margin-planks until the glue has set: Thanks for checking in! Peter

HMS Granado, Plank-on-Frame, 1/48 scale CAFModel

Before I remodelled my workshop during the Christmas Holidays (new floor) I built some further frames at the stern of my Granado. To get back into it, I continued with building frames at the centre of the hull. Here the pieces of a double frame have been removed from the wooden sheet. I...

    TITANIC HULL DETAIL ISSUE

Indeed the cut-outs in the hull were circular. However, these large portholes had flat sides. I hope it comes across in the image below. Regards Peter

    HMS Alert by Olympic1911

Thanks all for your likes and comments. I am now adding the handrail capstrips. These are being held down with strong rubber bands while the glue dries. This is really very straightforward. Only slight filing and fitting is necessary, the fit of parts is very good. Thanks for checking in...

I don't know what gets me most...

... is it the music or the model? I guess it's a combination of both!

    HMS Alert by Olympic1911

Time for an update here. After I spent the Christmas holiday laying a new wooden floor in my workshop... ...only the skirting boards now needing to be added... ...it is time to get back to more fun! In order to complete the deck-beams the galley-stove needs to be installed. Here are some...

    TITANIC HULL DETAIL ISSUE

There wasn't a plan of the port-side. Portholes shown as a circle are on the stb-side only. Those shown as a circle with a vertical line are on both sides and those indicated with dashed lines are on the port-side only. Other details which were specific to one hull-side only are indicated in the...

    TITANIC HULL DETAIL ISSUE

These are mooring cleats. I don't recall the Titanic having these in pairs in two strakes above each other but they were there. I have the Olympic shell plating plan, I'll have to dig it out again to see if the location is correct. There were several of these on each side. Peter

1/72 scale wood deck for Flower Class

This should give you a good idea, which deck areas were planked.

1/72 scale wood deck for Flower Class

Only very little deck-space of the Flower Class Corvette was actually planked with wood. The wood plank structure on the Revell/Matchbox 1/72 scale kit should be removed. I'll look it up tomorrow as my workshop is being remodelled and the books are in storage. I can advise you The Shipcraft...

Yes, fairing the hull was quite messy. I could imagine that a project like this can be done as a living room project, provided that the room is vacuum- cleaned after every session.
