HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Yes, that is the exact accessory kit included in the original model I have. Amati only made one version of the kit. It is a monster, the hull is over 37 inches long without the bowsprit.

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

OK, I am back to working on my build. I just finished the first layer of planking which I have been doing for several months. This hull is huge and complicated. Because this model has three times the number of bulkheads as most kits, it took a whole lot of adjusting to get them square enough to...

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Hi Brian, Thanks for checking. I am fine. I have been very busy with work and this COVID thing. Also, I have restarted an old hobby of repairing electronics devices such as computers etc. I reconstructed my electronics lab with new equipment. Because of this COVID pandemic, most if not all of...

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Hi Zoly, I am about 2/3 of the way done with the first layer of hull planking. Sorry I have not posted in a while. I have been very busy with this virus thing, as my job in healthcare is frantic right now. Hopefully as things quiet down I can get back to putting in more hours and posting...

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Hi Mate, Thanks for the advice. Normally I would do just that, but because there are so many bulkheads close together and the fact that I installed cross beams between each pair, the hull is completely rigid. It can't flex. Besides if you notice I did plank both sides around the main deck...

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Hi Mates, Long time no see. Now that I am pretty much confined to the house because of this Corona virus epidemic, I have been putting more time into my build. I have finally finished the starboard side of the first planking layer. It was a monstrous job. Besides being a very large hull, the...

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

As promised, some more photos of the hull being planked. This is just the first (course) layer of planking. There will be a second (finish) layer added over this after the entire hull is planked. This hull is a complex project because of the bluff bow and the curved and tucked stern. It requires...

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Hi Mate, Yes, there is more coming. Planking a hull this size takes a lot of time. As soon as I have considerable progress I will make more posts. I am only about half way through the first layer of planks. Vinc P. Ship-1

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

This is not my first build. I have planked at least 6 complex hulls over the years. Forceful bending is only needed at the very ends where the hull takes sharp turns. The wood is 1mm thick walnut and will not allow those curves without some pre-bending. The rest can be done without any...

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Hi Mr. Deep, Planking will be in 2 layers. First layer is to cover the hull and does almost follow the main deck lines. The second layer will follow the correct lines of the decks and will flow with the lower gun ports which follow the decks exactly. Vince P. Ship-1

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Hi Zolly, It is still in the Micro-Mark catalog. Item # 81356 I bought it 10 years ago and paid $130 US. It now sells for $149.95 US. In my opinion it is well worth it. I use it for bending wood, and metal strips including decorations. Vince P. Ship-1

HMS Prince - Amati 1:64 by Vince P. Original 1978 Version

Started the first layer of planking. It is very slow going. Because of the large number of bulkheads, many have to be adjusted along the way to keep the flow of the planking as smooth as possible. There are still ripples that show and those will have to be corrected after the entire hull is...
