Hello all- Before I start the actual build, I've been taking a lot of notes from Maarten, Neptune , Modelshipbuilder65, et al, concerning pitfalls and foibles of this lovely kit. I plan to extend the keel @20-25 mm to deal with the scale discrepancy... I fell in love with the rosewood beeswax look of the carvings..then I see the gilt on another.. Would it look odd to do the bulwark /stern pearwood carvings in the wax or poly and do the Queen's quarters (windows, etc) in gold gilt? I also bought the optional interior bits, so I plan to expose that somehow. With the peacock teal and red(ish) inner bulwarks, would it be too much? I am finishing up the Royal barge (sic) now. Also, I plan to mill up some 5mm basswood for the decking with WOP. Probably the planking as well. Anyone have a lead in the US for a particular beeswax or an option for satin WOP ? I generally use Minwax WOP Got to have the damn catheter for another two weeks, so I'm not cruising the hardware stores. I know it's my build, but looking for opinions..wishing all a happy holiday.

G'day John, I'm doing a dry run with my RC, I've put 35mm extra in length on her and I will be testing the carving drawings along her length, nothing is glued yet just in case I need to reduce the inserted amount, I can send you some pics when I try it out if you want,
Best regards John,

Hey Neptune..what a coincidence..I was going to review the build info to see exactly how much to add..now I'll wait for your findings before I modify her..finishing up on the Queen's launch..first time working with pear, lovely but not as forgiving as basswood.

Hello all. thanks for the replies..any input on my question about gilt vs. nat pear carvings or combo of each..interested in how RC builders think of my original post.. Interesting opinions on use of bees wax !

Hi Manning,

I also used bees wax and as John mentioned no dust gathering either.
I use clear bees wax to keep the warm gold colour of the boxwood.
