Hi guys I will be posting a new builidng blog here. Kit used here is Fujimi 1/700 Kaga full hull. Accessories includes Fujimi kaga etching and AKA deck etching parts plus some spares. 1CD034D8-6827-482E-8759-6D6C3D95D664.jpeg

The ship shares similarities to the famous Akagi, converted from a battleship hull, however its multiple decks design copied from HMS Glorious quickly became obsolete along with fast developing modern aircrafts. It received a modernization to become a single flight deck carrier.
There arent many photos of this ship and a lot of the details are either incorrect or missing from the kit, took me some time to search around. If interested they are listed below.

Kaga’s design is slightly defferent from Akagi, the hanger layout is verry different to begin with.

Kaga had twin funnels goes to its rear at first, and you guessed it, this is a design copy from British HMS Furious. The top hanger had side walls as barrier to the funnels and are flight deck support structures. These walls from midship to the aft were not removed after removing the funnel and modernization, which limited the top hanger space.

She had 3 levels of hanger but unlike Akagi, Kaga’s lower hanger had no elevator access which made it more or less a machine storage.

Images of Kaga after modernisation are rare and not so much detailed. I could only find some good quality photos from its first conversion, and I get a basic idea of its structure from here, photo samples attached.

A highly interesting project
Many thanks for sharing with us your amazing work

Fabulous work. We seem to have very similar taste in ships, you build in 1/700 and myself, mainly 1/350.

I have the Fujimi 1/350 Kaga and Tetra superdetail pack on the way.

I am intrigued as to your internal detail, something I may consider on my build.

Kind Regards

Nigel

Cheers Nigel,

These early stage converted carriers are truly amazing from a modeling aspect, given their unique appearances and excessive details.

I do have 1/350 ships in my stack, but I decided to let them collect dust for years after eyeing the amount of work that has to be done.

I look forward to your finished project.
