Hello Everyone,
I have decided to put the Victory on hold so that I may work on the 1904 Dutch Boeier Catharina. The reasons for this decisions are based on my nephew Albert and our brother Kortes here on SOS. Kortes' work on the Boeier Sperwer has left me with the desire to build one myself. My nephew is the person who finds old mahagony doors and frames when he remodels homes and brings them to me. His only request is that I build him something.

I have found many photos and drawings online for the Catharina that I felt comfortable to take this project on. The first thing I had to do was to get certain drawings copied in order to start working. In the drawing I noticed that I had to draw 17 individual frame sections. I grabbed a few sheets of paper and cut them in half. A centerline was drawn on each half sheet so that two half frame sections may be drawn.

Once all half frame sections were drawn, a straightedge was used so that the centerline could be lightly scored. Once scored, the sheet could then be bent in half. Each half frame section could now be cut from the drawn side and when opened it would have its mirrored image thus becoming a full frame section.

Once all frames were complete it was a matter of drawing the Catharina's profile. Upon completion of the profile I had all that was necessary in order to go to my shop to cut lumber. The frame sectons will not be permanent fixtures on the Catharina but a means of holding the futtocks in place until the planking is complete at which time they will be removed.

Here are a few photos showing you what I have so far.

Very interesting project - I already injoyed the building log made by our friend @Kortes , so I will follow yours with big interest
and will take the second chair next to Jim.....

btw: for everybody interested you can find the drawings with high resolution for download at the Fries Scheepwaart museum

Uwe, many thanks for the attached link. It contains certain drawings I did not previously have. Now I may be certain to build the Catharina as close to the original without fear of making certain mistakes. Once again, thank you for your valuable input.

Oh - I am very happy, that I were able to help - I will follow your build with big interest

If you save enough doors you can build a real one. Would be great to see a Dutch boeier sail in the Caribean:).
Nice project, I will follow along.

Hello Everyone,
Yesterday I went and got a few more copies of Catharina's drawing that I previously did not have but with Uwe's assistance and the site he graciously added to this thread above, I was able to do so. The drawings were ideal in helping me determine where all floor futtocks were placed and also showed me the angles in which they also had to be be placed.

Once I transfered the futtock locations on the profile, I cut the Catharina's profile and the 17 temporary bulkheads and set them aside. I grabbed each bulkhead and drew the area where the floor and upper futtocks would be so that it may later be cut later. Once the lines were completed I cut out the notches on all bulkheads and the profile. Once completed, I dry fit everything in place and I became extremely happy at how she was starting to look.
Here are a few photos to show.you what I have so far.

Very good, that you received the additional drawings - now the fun is starting

Hello everyone,
It took me a week and a half, (approximately 10 days) to remodel the Admiral's kitchen and now that she is happy, I can return to the Catharina. I grabbed individual temporary bulkheads in order to use them as templates for the futtocks at each station. I outlined the bottom edge of the floor futtocks onto my timber and cut it on the bandsaw. Once I made sure it was good, I used the edge as a guide and drew the upper edge of the floor futtock and proceded to cut it on the bandsaw. After a little sanding to make everything look good, I used the floor futtock as a stencil to make certain that the drawn outline on the temporary bulkhead was the same. Once happy with how it appeared, I went ahead and cut the futtock section from the temporary bulkhead in order to spot glue the actual futtock in its place. Once the floor futtock was in place, I cut the two upper futtocks and also spot glued them in place and held everything together with a rubberband. After the glue dried, I used a sanding stick to sand the outter edge of all futtocks per temporary station. Before I knew it, I had completed seven stations.
Here are a few photos of what I have so far.
