15000 Members !! 16000 Member Mark !!!

don't get me wrong seeing more and more people joining the site is great.

but just racking up names and seeing the members list getting longer and longer is just one aspect of a good site. The focus should be what new ideas and programs and projects the site has to offer. More build logs, more how to articles more research data makes a good site.

for all we know new members might join, look around and never take a second look or just become a ghost with nothing to say or offer

I agree with you Buddy. I for one, cannot wait until retirement. I am currently in the U.S. Army and stationed in Grafenwoehr, Germany without my tools. (I am such a sad Panda). I really hate staying on the sidelines twiddling my thumbs while watching people enjoy their builds. I am so eager to get back to my tools and dust off the cobwebs and produce more sawdust.

I love building ships and enjoy the challenges they bring which forces me to think about the best way to tackle certain aspects of a build. That being said, I really love this site's almost unnoticed/unspoken topic. Historical Trailways, Guns, and Aircraft Build Log

My father raised me up watching old spaghetti westerns and I fell in love with that time frame's stagecoaches, Army escort wagons, chuck wagons, and the Conestoga covered wagons (a.k.a. "Prairie Schooners"). I loved it so much that I have already built a stagecoach but unfortunately, I did not take pictures of its build progress due to not knowing of any sites that would allow you to post your progress. Now that SOS has a specific topic for these types of builds, I will gladly jump on the wagon, (pun intended) and start documenting these builds once I get back home stateside. It is my hopes that some members will also get bitten by the "Wagon Bug" and eventually want to tackle one of their own. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope it will draw more potential modelers to our site.

I AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETLY, we do not need to become another there are many topics being on the site I think Zoly and Uwek, this day in history, book reviews, etc, should receive more promanance and maybe another projects page here like at MSB using same format it created a lot of buzz at MSB, this site now becoming truly international, and wit members like G. Delacroix (SORRY FOR THE SPELLING ) and maybe a catorgory like reasearch by itself seems like there are many members who take an interest in reasearch, many things to think about, just not let this become static always need different ideas and thoughts, any more ideas from members lets open a discussion on this HOW TO IMPROVE SITE, it is a GREAT SITE, but can turn static in a flash, so an ongoing discussion is necessary,. You are right Don.
I must confess I do mostly head to the build logs, but when I get a spare moment I read through Uwe's excellent Today In History section. I try to research the history of any ship I build, it brings the whole thing "to life." At the moment I am looking into the history of the St Gabriel and Vitus Bering's expeditions in Siberia, which led to the sea between Russia and Alaska being named after him, the fact that Peter the Great, who sponsored the expeditions, spent time in Holland and other European countries including Britain, learning about ship building, explains why this boat has such a Dutch design, thanks to Maartens for that information. It is great to be able to watch craftsman building the fantastic model ships that are on this forum, but it would also be really good if you could learn how to tie knots, the different types of hull planking, learn about the history of a ship, how they were built in the days before CAD and high tech tools and materials, and also see things like planes, stagecoaches, buses, trains and buildlings being constructed. We all have so many different skills that could be used by others in their particular building projects.

Cheers Andy

Awesomeness we are growing fast

We reached today 1.700 members, a half year ago we had around 1.000 members.

Yes - Indeed - the last 100 new members in only 2 1/2 weeks with an average of 5 new members per day. And new members from all over the world.

But like I said already before:
Growing is one, new members are nice, but more important is the activities of the members, which you can see in the number of new topics and posts!!!
And these figures are also growing minimum in the same range or even more.

G'day Dave from the Land Downunder
It's always nice to have another member (sibling as I like to call you all, as we are a world-wide family) who prefer SOS. You are in some very good company as you will discover there are lot of us here now. And I'm please to say we are growing everyday.
Welcomeagainmemattie

As I like to say, I told you so, more important then the numbers is the partisapation of the members and keeping them, more group projects like the blanford, and the up comming ontarrio, more interchange discussions, more how to itms etc also the new developments in the hobby and how to use them, 3-D modeling 3-D instruction, more threads and tutitorials for intermediate modelers who want to start scratch building etc, that is what will hold members and bring in new ones especially the novice and intermediate modelers witch make up the great majority of ship modelers, more research articles and threads QUALITY OVER QUANTITY IS THE BULWORK OF THIS FORUM, and the help of the advanced builders like what JOE DID FOR ME ON THE MILLING QUESTION, KEEP IT GOING GUYS. Don

Personally, I wish the success to all forums! IMHO, they inspired a simple idea - unite modelers! But who actually makes this accomplished? Us - members of the forum. It is us who share the knowledge with others with passion and joy! It is us, who thanks each other every day for doing it! It staff members\admin who provided us with a platform where we can express our gratitude! Thank you SOS members and staff memebers\admins for making such a nice forum I am proudly part of it!
