The journey may be long, imperfect, and demand hard work and patience, but the end result is worth it.
I used a basic kitchen water boiler you plug in and was able to easily steam and bend the wood planks. I took my time on this step to match parity in the plank alignments on the hull and aft as much as possible.
In this model kit, I refrained from using any of the brass molded pieces and decide to push the envelope by charting my own path and hand-making those elements of the ship out of wood. I’ll post a separate log about building the captain’s quarters from scratch. Below are some thumbnails of just the hull planking process from about 6 years ago.
