Hi!
The 8th of March was "International Women's Day" which was celebrated like 'Valentine's Day' in the former Soviet Block countries. All the women receive flowers on this date especially my wife from Lithuania. This is also the date we decided to get married way back when. So I wanted to do something special for her.

She had gotten this cute little model ship at work; alas it's anchors were broken. It's pretty nice for what it is and is even rigged with wooden blocks and has the gores on it's sails.

So now that I'm into model ships and just received a good supply of parts (and even 1 mm anchor chain) I decided to make two new anchors for her ship. One of my little plants (although small but cute) also came into bloom thus saving me a trip to the garden center.

I have a roll of 1 mm copper wire left over from an Amateur Radio CW transmitter project so sanded away it's enamel coating and hammered it into the propper form creating nicely shaped shovel tips on them. And I bent them into shape with a small chain nose pliers for jewelry work.

I soldered their 'hooks' to their shafts with silver based solder after installing the beech wood cross arms I cut and filed out of an ice cream stick. Then after paining I used 2 mm rings to attach then to their 1 mm chains.

I tied them up to the deck with some heavier, golden colored jeans thread.

They aren't to scale or proportion but neither is her ship anyway and they look nice. She was very happy with her new set of anchors and the little plant.

It was also good practice as my 1:142 trawler needs a good anchor but naturally of modern style.

Best Wishes UrkerVisser
