Happy Day. A combination Birthday and Christmas present. I received my Captain John Smith's Shallop from the Ships of Pavel Nikitin Stores only 33 days after they received my funds from Paypal. I think that's fast.
It was very well packed for its long trip and was deposited on my porch in perfect condition. I've done a nice long inspection of the contents but unfortunately I won't have the time to start my long-awaited construction for awhile.
My wife and I are moving from the SF Peninsula after living here our whole lives and moving out of state. At 76 this is not an easy thing. Of course the timing is wonderful also. We feel between 3 and 6 months should do the trick unless the Government springs another surprise again. Selling in Silicon Valley where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a computer programmer driving a Tesla, to an other state where, well you couldn't even find a dead cat, is going to take up all our time. It will be another world, thank goodness. I can't wait to get settled into our new place and get my work shop, work area, corner of the dining room table set up. At least I have plenty of time to safely prepare my ships for their long trip north.

Moving to Gig Harbor, Washington. Much colder than we are accustomed to and it snows. The last time it snowed where we live now was maybe 30 or 40 years ago and it melted in 30 minutes. Big. Change but it’s not in California! Looking forward to it.

Hi Rand, wishing you all the best and a smooth move. I also bought this kit and have started building it. Olha Bacherov has at least 4 videos showing her build process and these might be helpful when you get started. Guy

Hi Rand I have ordered the kit and hope after the first of the year to receive it. I have watched the video's many times and am ready to get started. Good luck on your move.

Thank you for your best wishes. I emailed those videos to my phone and the other one on how Pavel paints/stains his ships. If these don’t get me through the build I’m in big trouble. It looks like you’re off to a good start. If you have the time I’d love to see a picture of your progress now and again. You’ll be finished before I can be able to start…maybe 6 months. I’m not happy about it either.
I hope your Christmas, Hanukkah is everything you wanted it to be and the New Year the same.

Stay safe,
Rand

I concur. Leagues ahead of the typical kits on the market. Superb fits, excellent woods, toped with jigs/shoes to build the kit. The only problems I have had was fitting frames 1-3 and 22-24. It was my error in not studying the assembly drawing closely.

That’s where the problem’s usually come from. Not from the kit but our ability to read the instructions clearly and as many times as we should. I have a few horror stories I could tell. You’re correct about the kit. I’ve never seen anything that came close to its quality in everything. I’m trying to find a way to start working on the boat sooner than I thought. I hate not being able to get working on it now.

Rand,

Looking forward to seeing your progress. I recently built a scratch model of the Mayflower shallop, and it was a fun model to build. I have some reference photos of the restored shallop replica in Plymouth, MA, if you need them. Contact me through “conversations”.

Happy moving, Uwek! I am about to move also, although only 5 miles from my present house it is a big project and puts a temporary hold on my model making. I did a build log for the shallop, and hope something in it is helpful to you.
