In recent days, some Chinese scaleship modelers have been anxious and discussing one thing: KEEP IT REAL, a well-known and influential model ship forum administrator, calling again for a boycott of all sailship model kits from China, also including some Russian.

I'm Forrest from China. have been living in Christchurch New Zealand for eight years. I'd like to talk about the real of Chinese model kits - KEEP IT REAL, if you are interested.
Before I write this, I hesitated for a period of time, there are two reasons 1, English is not my native language, I am afraid I can't express my meaning, 2, I don't like arguments and Judge others, I am a ordinary modeler only, like you guys, a quiet modeler, to make ship models, enjoy sharing some ship model with friends

I do not represent any Chinese model manufacturer.

All of chinese ship model kits really pirated?

There are some, but not all.

The Chinese modelers are a little different from other places. Most of them, including their father's father, have never seen a real windsail warship, not to mention the detail of structure. But they fell in love at first sight, It's a wonderful thing.

In the '90s, the amateur scale sailship modelers had almost never seen a real ship or a drawing, and they probably made a ship like that. They make model ships depend on their imagination.

Around 2004, Some kits were on the Chinese market. From today's perspective,Most of them had a lot of mistakes, because at that time few people know the National Museum of American, RMG, seawatch, ancre, etc, they can't distinguish, continental type , and British ship, They found some drawings without any details, According to these drawings they designed model kits.

By around 2008, there were hundreds of ordinary ship modeler in China. Some businessmen see it as a business opportunity, They started copy ship models and sale it in China,This is why some Chinese ship model kits use the existing ship model drawings completely,But most Chinese ship modeler don't buy them because they are so rough

Around 2011, Triton section kit was made by a Chinese manufacturers. After the matter was brought to light, part of the Chinese model manufacturers to stop the replication model, They digitize some drawings downloaded from the Internet, 3D modeling, experiment, To the market, The process takes about a year or above.

manufacturers certainly do not want their product to be an illegal product but they really don't know how to legalize because of the differences in language and culture.

I'm not making any excuses, I'm just talking about the facts.

Do all Chinese model fans support piracy?

This question is not easy to answer. As far as I know, almost all model beginer have never heard of Caldercraft,Artesania Latina, Ancre, Amati, polyto, Panart and Syren, because the above model manufacturers have not officially sold their kits in China.
Some modeler do not distinguish a piracy kit, they think that the complete copy from other kits is a piracy, Take a year to redesign, is this re-creation or piracy?

In addition, it is really hard to buy the kits from Caldercraft, A.Latina, Ancre, Amati, polyto, Panart and Syren in China. Similarly, many people cannot buy from taobao because they cannot understand Chinese. Most Chinese modelers also don't speak English, and some don't even have international credit cards.

The above model manufacturers welcome to sell their models in China, However,I think it might be a difficult thing to do, they need to translate their own instructions and face a market with only a few thousand people or less.

How many active scale sail ship model manufacturers in China at present ?

So far, Steadily continue to design and produce new model kits there are no more than five products, maybe only three or four.

Is Chinese model ship manufacturers making high profits?

As far as I know, some of those manufacturers have no employees Although they've been in business for more than 10 years. They are designers, bosses, workers, customer service and even cleaners.the kits only have Chinese instructions, Perhaps they don't have the money to translate the instructions or to support their access to overseas markets.

------------------------

I'm not a merchant specialist or a legal specialist, but I think that piracy is a commercial problem or a crime, They must be judged by the court. as a non-profit forums , they can't just assume that one model is a copy, all of this country is, It's like, when someone steals something, All the people in this country are thieves. This is a very simple and fundamental principle.
I'm not defending anything, I'm just saying, NOT ALL OF THEM

I put on some unicorn products from one of China's ship modeling companies

Ship builders & Politics that’s a big ocean to sail. Forum, debates, option…..

Let face it scale ship builders are there own breed, most I know are free spirited builders who build for the love of the craft. Most folks could not spot a quality fake anyway, I believe wrong is wrong if I know it’s a copy then I won’t buy it, its my choice. However I will not judge the whole based on the few, not picking sides here it’s just what I believe. At the end of the day we all stand on the same common ground scale ship builders, something I take allot of stock in.

Take a year to redesign, is this re-creation or piracy?

this is the real key thing and no one here can judge that

Sorry for post a rather delicate subject

do not feel sorry for the post you gave us all a new perspective on the issue

as far as this "keep it real" boycott there is no worry world wide and many other forums just ignore it, the boycott will not amount to anything because builders will build what they want.

Whatever model I wish to build, I just build - I would certainly never buy a kit from anyone legit or pirate, too big, too expensive, and limited subjects. I feel MSW is just a thinly disguised commercial site, promoting their own products, which they are entitled to do, of course. I was very surprised when such a respected organisation such as NRG decided to go along the kit path. Rather like the National Art Galleries in London or New York promoting painting by numbers. I suppose this will bring screams of anguish, but it is not meant to provoke anyone. If you prefer building kits (from whoever) I have no problem with that because after all, for most, it is just a hobby - it just doesn't suit me. Live & let live - do what you want, and let others do the same!

You are right in saying that an entire industry should not be punished by this 'boycott'. Just like everywhere else in the world, the hobby industry is made up of all sorts of people daring to make a small living doing what they love. This boycott paints entire countries with a 'piracy' brush and is in itself a loathsome behavior. From what I can see of all the beautiful models made by people here, certain 'other' groups need to get the lead out and start re-thinking things before they are left in the dust. Keep at it China! Keep at it Russia!

Thank you very much, and I'm surprised that there are a lot of people who have always been calm and fair about these things .
builders will build what they want.

Matthew 7 .1"Don't judge, so that you won't be judged. 2For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you

I'll forward this to the Chinese modeler who follow this .

Well said.

Some people seem to forget that people went to war so their descendants can have freedom of speech, freedom from tyranny but most of all freedom of CHOICE.

Denis.
Also this group of people hiding behind freedom of speech with trolling, bullying, defaming ,harrasing others with false excuses and statements and vast interest of one the manufacturer. ,yep.
