Accuracy of Scale Model Ships

I thought that this could be a good discussion point on the accuracy of scale model ships.

I know that some parts supplied in kits are inaccurate from what I have read, like blocks
 
well when I dod planes I was pretty anal on accuracy due to competitions were very tough on you for accuracy they were broken down into documentaion, outline and profile, scale fidelity, flying routine of course and one more i forgot so they really got into it so i am seeming to try and be just as anal with my ship drawings and when i get building will be too but thats personal preference

Most model kit companies use generic parts in their kits with a near enough is good enough attitude. For example Billings kits are notorious for this with their cannon barrels all being the same for every kit from the Wasa to the Juyland. A 300 year difference in age of the ships and totally different cannons. But supplied as the same barrels in both kits because they assume the average modeller would not know the difference.
