Airfix P-51D 1:48

Have fun with plastics (always reminds me of riding our small 250//450 bikes which we called our “plastic bikes “. ;) ) while we wait for that Le Requin. Cheers Grant
Thanks Grant, you just made me think about my old Suzuki 550 rrrring dinnnng dinnng dinnng two stroke back in the mid 70's.

I have what to me is an exciting update and that is the visual presented from all the micro painting, and micro decals. The individual decals are so small I didn't think they would show up except as a curious speck but combined as a whole cockpit unit they depict a surprising realist view! See what you think.

Now I can mask off the cockpit area, add the wings and airbrush the assembly for a quality looking finish sans brush strokes.
I may need to treat the main instrument panel dashboard with the dark green and just leave the seat as is.

Thanks for looking in.

That looks great! ;)

I just received my Eduard dual P-51 kit…pretty excited. It comes with resin parts, PE parts, masks and the panel lines and rivets are amazing at 1/72 scale…the best I have seen!

Anyway, looking forward to building two from this set in the future.
I do have a 1/48 scale P-51 by Tamiya that will be interesting as well.
But I have so many airplanes to build that I have to get back to my ship eventually, or I will never finish it! ROTF

Wow Dean, that looks like one awesome kit, now I will have to do some research into Royal Class models.

Its Friday! Good afternoon, everyone.
I finally had a chance to head out to my paint shop in the garage and try out my new airbrush. Trying to decide whether to glue up then paint vs paint first then glue up has all kinds of advantages and or disadvantages so as I muddle through this process here is what I have so far. Starting in the garage.

The fuselage and main wings have been painted and clear coated along with the ailerons and vertical stabilizer flap.

Going back inside to my hanger are I have a close up.

I thought I would back up and take a couple shots of my work area which is kind of cramped but works out ok. My workstation computer desk is where I make my maps for my mapping business Dans Maps LLC which pays for my hobby.

And for a little more background, here is a map I made for a client a while back. I have wondered off topic a bit, but you all are a fun group to share these kinds of things with.

Till next update have a great weekend.

Looks like you are an air-brush pro!
Paul, thanks for the complement. The learning curve is steep and I'm a slow learner, I happen to have two of these P51 kits thank goodness because I messed up the first set of wings so bad, the finish looked like alligator skin. Tried smoothing it down with steel wool, hit it again with paint which was ok until I applied the clear coat too soon which brought it right back to double ugly. Apparently, there are 25 to 30 ways or more to do this wrong and only one way to do it right Ha!

I like your setup Daniel, efficient and ergonomic! ;)

Ps - good job on the airbrushing.

I now have some more assembly progress to show. The wings are affixed and all control surfaces are attached. The antiglare surfaces are done as well as the engine exhaust pipes. Still have landing gears and propeller nose cone to install. Then just the exterior decals. See what you think.

IMG_0874.jpgIMG_0875.jpgIMG_0878.jpgIMG_0879.jpg

The canopy is ready for install, I just have to decide if it will be open and with or without pilot sitting in the cockpit. Also, I will not be adding drop tanks or bombs at this point.

Till next time thanks for stopping by.
