Airfix P-51D 1:48

Paul I would have thought so as well however I have not seen one example of it out of many photos. On the b17’s they had it on the engine nacelles but not the wings either.

I now have some more assembly progress to show. The wings are affixed and all control surfaces are attached. The antiglare surfaces are done as well as the engine exhaust pipes. Still have landing gears and propeller nose cone to install. Then just the exterior decals. See what you think.

The canopy is ready for install, I just have to decide if it will be open and with or without pilot sitting in the cockpit. Also, I will not be adding drop tanks or bombs at this point.

Till next time thanks for stopping by.
I like it! Well done! ;)

On the P-38 there was anti-glare paint on the nose and the two front inner surfaces of the engine nacelles. The wings are below the pilots line of sight and peripheral vision, thus don’t need anti-glare protection. The same can be said for the P-51.
Also any black you see on the wings of some aircraft close to the fuselage and next to the cockpit are purely for anti-slip purposes. Because once again, that is below the pilots line of sight.

Good afternoon, all. I have a finished my P51D. Picking up where I left off yesterday, I assembled the landing gears with painting. Decaled the nose and set the
prop.

The prop tips in yellow called for 2.1mm of paint, well not by my hand so I found a shallow paint holder and poured 2.5 mm of paint then just dipped the tips into it. I thought that a clever solution.

The rest are various views.

Finally, a side by side, both at 1:48.

I settled on closed cockpit no pilot so one can see into all the controls.

This was an enjoyable fill in while waiting on my main project (La Requin) to arrive which is scheduled to get here this later this week!
Thank you all for joining me on this build, as I have said before being able to share the experience with you all is more than half the fun.

I'll be back in the wooden ship section soon, take care.

I'll be looking foward to that. BTW model B25-C Michell arrived as a BD present yesterday. I've not done any plastic modeling in years. We shall see:rolleyes::rolleyes:
I'll be looking forward to that as well. I chose to go with the modern glues as opposed to the old Testers gooey tube glues. It would be well worth your time to watch a few You Tube videos on modern plastic super thin liquid glues, to me they are fantastic.

That is great advice. My past experience was Testors bottle glue and the gooey tube glue. No matter how careful I was there was always overglue somwhere on the model.
