I have been ordering my wooden model boat kits from Model Expo. Since Trump and the Canadian government are at odds these days Model Expo has experienced problems shipping model kits to Canada and as a result they with no long ship to us on the north side of the border. As a result I have been seeking out other possibilities. None that meet my requirements are located in Canada. Some overseas have models that interest me but I am hesitating due to the fact I am not familiar with them or their models, etc. Yesterday I had an ad from Artesania Latina in Spain show up on my Facebook page. Looks like they have some nice models and reasonable prices and it seems thy will ship to Canada. Has anyone had any dealing with this company? Thanking you in advance for any responses.

Hi Bill,

It really depends on what is important to you. What is the order of importance of such things as cost, quality, historical accuracy, a model that no one else offers, complexity, etc. Based on kit builds here at SoS I believe the best kits ever produced comes direct to Canada from China, HMS Enterprise (28) 1774 as well as some others without excessive import duties. Modelship Dockyard comes to mind immediately and another that looks good is Unicorn Models. Modelship Dockyard is light years ahead of anything AL produces. They offer several different vessels, scales, and materials of construction. One of nicest things about the Enterprise is that there is the original contract of one of her sister ships with all her scantlings as well as high resolution drawings of her as a fighting ship and as a hulk for men kidnapped by press gangs on the internet.

Thanks Alan. I will definitely look into your suggestion. I am not in a rush but want something to fill a long Canadian winter! I will check out the other suppliers you mention.

i have nothing bad to say about artisiana latina and have found them very helpful

I have Vasa from Artesania Latina. They have taken help from the Vasa Museum in Stockholm. I think it is considered the best Vasa kit so far.
I think a lot depends on which boat you want to buy. I suspect that almost all major manufacturers have kits that are less good and also those that are better.
I think you will get a better answer if you specify which ship it is.

look at youtube videos of of artisiana builds and see what you think. also I really like the sapele wood dye that I can't find in the united states, so you could order that at the same time. i await delivery of the tug sansun model
