I actually encouraged the suckers to make into bows but quit that and started making ships. Does that still make me a true modeler? :) It took 12 years to grow into 3 1/2" logs about 10' long. I grew three of them.

looks like you did go far and beyond what is expected of a true woodworker
Far as i ever got was to harvest standing timber, cut it, dry it and mill it into lumber. Never tried to grow it though!
 
Wasn’t that the problem with Oak Trees! Great Britain’s ship building industry 17th 18th Century hadn’t heard of sustainability! Takes at least 100 years for an Oak Tree to mature I think.
