When you are belaying to a rail is it just 3 or 4 wraps and a couple of half hitches or??
During my seamanship training I was always told that to tie off, it was two round turns and a half-hitch.
Thanks Jim. Just for the heck of it I did a google search on "Two round turns and a half hitch" and the only results that came back were for two round turns and 'two' half hitches. It struck me as odd that there was no mention of one half hitch. Strange, but I'll go with one,
Just as a follow up question did they ever drill a random hole for a belaying pin in a rail? I just seems like it would be the thing to do. It seems a lot easier to belay to a pin rather than have to wrap who knows how much rope twice around the rail.
