Ahoy! A question about bending sails to spars. I am at the phase of deploying the sails on my Connie, and noticed in some pictures that the sails were attached to metal rods on the lager spars, how far up the mast was this done? I understand that these were used as hand holds as well, and I am pretty sure the topmen did not typically travel all the way up and out on the royal yards. Did the upper yards have these rods?

Cheers!
