Best way to simulate an eye splice in 1/35 scale?

What's the best way to simulate an eye splice in a one inch line in 1/35 scale. I'm using thread.

One way I have seen is to just cut the end on a bias and glue it to the area to be "spliced". Another which I like involves unraveling the line where you want the splice to be and weaving the end of the line at least twice into the unraveled area and then tightening everything up.

1:35 scale is close to 1:32 so a 1” diameter line is about 1/32 in in diameter. The Best Way is to make a real eye splice in a line of this diameter. Possible, but I can’t do it!

An important part of your rigging tool kit should be a set of various sized sewing needles. You can make a simulated eye splice by simply using a needle to pull the loose end of the thread through the standing part. Better yet, do it twice. A little dab of clear lacquer based nail polish fixes everything in place.

Hard to say without playing with it a bit. One option is to thread a needle and pass the thread back through the standing part, then seal that with a drop of shellac or CA adhesive. Another technique is to simply pair the standing part and the bitter end and whip them with finer stuff. Neither of these are accurate scale representations, but rather "fakes," one would have to hope would be overlooked.

At 1:35 scale, it would seem you are well within the range of reproducing accurate miniature ropework. I would advise you to set up a rope walk and lay up your own scale cordage and then splice it in the ordinary fashion. Master German modeler, Johann, AKA "Archjofo" has produced excellent build logs over the years. He generally works in 1:48 scale, which is about a quarter-size smaller than your 1:35, so he's proven it's entirely possible to accurately produce scale eye splices at 1:35. He's not using thread, of course, and that's the trick of it: using miniature cordage which can be spliced just as the full-size is.

You should study Johann's build log(s) to gain valuable information on his techniques. (His earlier log entries are on Model Ship World forum.) Don't be intimidated by his "super-human" modeling abilities. I suspect he may be from another planet or have been abducted by aliens and invested with modeling super powers. You're working at a larger scale than he is, so it should be a lot easier for you.
