Hello
Anyone know what that mechanism on the deck of norden is . It has these rollers on it and it doesn’t look like a winch

Greetings, Bill. If you’re referring to the image below, the mechanism appears to be a net hauler or line hauler, commonly found on small fishing vessels like the Norden.

  • The black drum/roller grips and pulls in fishing lines or nets.
  • The blue blocks are probably rollers or fairleads to guide the rope or net and prevent chafing.
  • It’s mounted high and outboard so that the gear being hauled comes directly from the water over the gunwale.
Line haulers were typically driven by a small engine or hydraulic motor, and they saved a lot of manual hauling effort, especially in longline or gillnet fishing.

Thankyou I was thinking that also that it was used for nets but wasn't sure
