Finising the very beautiful king's yaht Royal Caroline - bright colored with paint and gold furnishing, I went in absolute opposite direction - black-black Black Pearl. Even the set has some "golden" parts, on most finishing models present just black color. So for me it's very interesting and hard task - make nice model in just one color. But there was no such ship in reality. Just legend. That means I have some fredom, which I am gonna to use
I start with model a month ago. Now I am finishing second planking. I show build log previous steps.
Two remarks
I build yellow light for captain cabin. The red light in hull shoul appears on just cannons side, make some effect of anxiety - this is PIRATE's ship! How it appears in reality-don't know
My skill of planking far from perfect. I know this. When joint of planks is not perfect, the white background just shine. To avoid this I cover first polising level with mix of white glue for wood and acril of second plank color (photo 013).
Hope for some advice, will appreciate for any opinion and critics

Hallo,
this is the testing area, so not much people will take a look - it would be great, if you would start a building log of this build - or shall we move this topic to the correct area?

Hallo Uwe
Sorry, this is my mistake and I will be happy to make it right, but I research Forum and still don't understand how to start new thread.
If this ok move this topic to the correct area
I am also not sure I place photos of my finished model Royal Caroline 1/47 Panart
Please advice
Thanks

Looking good. I am building the Pearl now as my second build. I wiil watch your posts. I can do the wood part of these models but struggle with the rigging. Mostly beacause i don't understand it. I am learning alot just from other members posts. Keep it up.

I used a semi transparent black stain on my. The picture you post looks like it was done with black then sanded to get aged effect. Here is my effect with thinned black stain (semi) then a matt clear panted over. The more coats of black deeper it gets.

Thanks a lot for advice. You know, there is a very thin border between looks old and looks dirty. Your way makes looks old. What are you using for matt clear over

Hull is ready. Stern didn’t finish, I don’t want to place stern flashlights before fix hull on stand. Next step I am going to paint hull and for my way of paint I don’t want to put extra parts on hull. I will paint them separately and glue them later.

Two thoughts.

The roof of the captain cabin is very heavy and inelegant. The ship looks like caravel of 16-17 century and I didn’t see on some of them so heavy roof (consider my little knowledge). I am going to build balcony instead of roof and it seems to me it will be more elegant. The pirates are people too and they love beautiful too!

Positions of caryotids on stern are strange. If side cariotids more or less support heavy captain cabin, rear almost lie and looks like their glued because they are in kit. Right position should be close to vertical. Will think how to do this.

Will continue…

Whether historically correct or not I think a wrap-round balcony across the stern and above the quarter galleries would look great.

Sometimes before I reed Shota70 very good opinion about linseed. And I decide to use it. The main goal was to keep structure of wood. I love the wood itself and don’t like to paint it. I bought it in organic food store and it calls Flax oil. Translator from English show -it is the same.

I cover all the surface with a little oil and when it dry out -just 24 hours - I sand the surface just to take out the shine.

I have got very nice result. This is opinion of my wife (she is artist) and my own. The boat looks very old with pleasant dark brown color. And now I am in doubt – to use black to get model older or leave as is.

Remarks about led. I bought new year garland for couple dollars and took leds from it. It has so thin wires, that I use only 0.6 mm drill bit to make a holes. So, it looks no wires at all.

Today, December 23 exactly 3 months than I start Black Pearl. I worked just with it one. And now I completely finish the hull. Ahead Rangout and rigging

All changes from most of built ships you can see on photos and I will appreciate your opinions about them. Sometimes quality of assembling is not good, I am very unhappy with it, but I am just beginners.

Wishing everybody Happy New Year and new remarkable projects in New 2025 year

It was long, long time finish. With great doubts that I will come to the end. So, I show the final result of my Black Pearl. It looks very beautiful, but this is due to the elegance of its hull. But I am very unhappy with this work. I did it, redid it many times, was nervous that it is looking not good. The build quality is poor, there is a lot of glue everywhere. I am just tired of this model and decided to finish it.

The zhl instructions are very bad, and the drawings of the rigging are just awful. I made the hull thanks to the photos on the forum, and I tried to make the rigging based on other models, but I made just several steps of it.

One more remark about the quality of the zhl model. A lot of the parts are made on a good walnut board. This is a big plus. But sometimes they are cut very poorly and therefore small parts just crumble when you try to get them out. And plus goes to minus.

Will appreciate for your feedback and comments
