Brig "Mercury" from Amati, scale 1:64

I brought out the line of the stern countersink (in the kit it was offered as a joint of two elements and had an angle) and made it smooth.

Replaced the barkhouts with black hornbeam slats and started sheathing the bulwarks. Inside is green hornbeam, outside is black hornbeam and holly. Yes, I found this tree in our country. Thanks to Paul for showing in his construction what it looks like

Glued the deck. It is laser cut from pear wood, 0.5 mm thick. Why is it like this? The deck from the kit, as you can see in the first post, was already glued, I couldn't tear it off, so I used this approach.

I started to form the frames of the gun ports and further sheathing.

Good day Alexander! I have previously observed your work on building models. I will be watching with great interest the new direction in your work - restoration of models. Good luck!
Good day. Thank you. But this is not a restoration, I just got the set in a started state, as in the first photo. I am now fixing and redoing it.

Lovely build Alexander :)
Is there a reason you did not add the stern timbers and counter planking before adding the hull planks? It looks like you ran the hull planks a little long so they cover the ends of the counter planks as was normally done, but this seems it would be more difficult than framing and planking the counter first.
Thanks
Allan

Allan, good day.
I tried to fix what I got. But it looks like I'll have to start all over again. Cut out the frame parts again - the keel frame and the frames and start from scratch. The differences of 1 - 2 mm along the planking belts cannot be fixed without disassembling the hull. It's easier to start over. So let's go back to the very beginning. I'll show everything later. While I'm waiting for new parts, I'll probably do some minor work - rigging and other things

Dear Sasha. It is great to see you at work on the Mercury - a very famous and renowned Russian vessel. I commend your decision to start from scratch as I do not believe you would have been happy otherwise. This build of yours I will follow with interest!

I really like to see the use of holly. I have seen it used below the water line to represent the tallow based coating and I use it often for deck planking. It really makes a nice contrast against the hornbeam.

Do you find hornbeam easier to work than ebony? I am not a fan of ebony for several reasons but have no experience with hornbeam.

Thanks

Allan

Allan, good afternoon.
And I have no experience working with black wood (we call it ebony). What I like about black hornbeam (precisely black) is that any flaw can be corrected with PVA glue and dust. This does not work with other colors. This applies specifically to hornbeam. Hornbeam cuts well, and is processed with sandpaper well. The only thing is dust, it is everywhere. Therefore, I recommend using a mask when working with it

Саша, привет! А что это за вариант окраски такой? Есть ему подтверждение? Если что, на момент его подвига корабль был окрашен иначе.
Sasha, hello! What color option is this? Is there any confirmation for him? If anything, at the time of his feat the ship was painted differently.

I know how Mercury was painted at the time of the battle with the Turks in 1829. With the Amati kit, this option does not work. The white stripe rests on the middle of the windows on the stulzes. Therefore, the paint job is according to the Amati version
