Buccaneer 1/100 OcCre - My First Build

Was able to get all the sails on tonight. So tomorrow I start doing the sail rigging. Not long to go now and I can say that I have finished my first wooden ship. I have learned so much and am confident on the next build I will be able to step it up a notch.

I learned so much throughout the build of this ship, my first wooden ship. So many things I will know for next time and will be able to improve on it. I feel pretty good about it; it took me three months to complete. Bashed a few things along the way that I felt able to do. (Doors, windows, and medallions painted; cannons drilled out to give depth, hanks and ropes added to decks and belay pins) I think I have found a new hobby to enjoy.

Going to start the Santisima Trinidad Cross-section that the Admiral wants to hang in the Dining Room. She bought it for me, so I hope it will come out well.

Imagine my surprise this morning to find out my ship has already been commandeered.20250510_140459.jpg20250510_135920.jpg20250510_135939.jpg20250510_140010.jpg20250510_135832.jpg20250510_135813.jpg

Hopefully they will bring it back when they need repairs and up grades.

Great-looking ship! And so fast compared to my pace.

There appears to be a boarding party from the Enterprise there. Spoiler alert: the guys in red shirts are going to die. ROTF

Thank you for the kind words.

Did think when I was painting, the one next to the pilot house looked like Spock.

Good morning. Congratulations on completing your first wooden ship. A lovely model wonderfully presented. Way to go. Cheers Grant

Catching up on your build as I’ve been away for a few weeks…

Beautiful build. Congrats on completing your first wooden ship model. And in record time at least as far as the speed of my builds.

Your ratlines look great! And I agree, it appears as if Spock has taken the “conn”. Can’t wait to see your next build.

Fantastic job. I just hope when I start my Albatros, that I can get anywhere close to what you have accomplished here. How do you plan to step it up a notch? Don't see much to improve. Enjoy your next project.

Thank you for the kind words. There are so many little things I would like to change about how I built this ship. I knew it would be a learning process since it was my first build. There are steps I should have slowed down and looked carefully before moving on.

One thing I will do differently next time, I will do all the shrouds and ratlines before installing the yards. It would have been much easier not bumping into them. I also want to take some time to weather parts. Plus I need to make my people more realistic and year specific. (Unknowingly I painted most of the figures as crew from the starship Enterprise. Poor guy on the ratlines in the red shirt. hahaha.)

Still have much to learn about building ships/wood working and greatly look forward to it. The past three months have been so enjoyable and relaxing as I sit, ponder, and build.

Hello Rebus,

now that you are in the learning process, you should continue building. You can do this with the kit from Occre - the Santisima Trinidad cross-section.

I'm already looking forward to your build report. Welcome to the club of addicts! Model building is great!

Best regards

Thank you for the kind words. The ratlines were at first a question of how many days will I be doing this. Then I developed a rhythm and it went a little quicker. Never tied that many clove hitches before.

I have begun the cross-section and will start my build log soon. It has mainly been experimenting and pondering so far. Plus buying some veneer to do some bashing on the frames.
