Hi every one. I was going through the post here and didn't see any thing on a variable height desk. Well any way I built one for Alfred which gives me the option of the height I want to work on her and wish I had built one ten years ago. The cost of the actuator's and controls have come down to were one can afford the parts and pieces to build one. Other then that the only other hard ware that I needed were draw slides to keep the top stable. The wood I already had so didn't have to purchase any of that. I did take a look when we was at Ikea, and played around with the ones they had on display, but the cost was a little on the high side so I didn't get one. In the mean time the cost of the parts came down so I purchased them off of ebay. Since then I replace the controls with one that uses a remote control, which stays on top of the table in case I want to move it up or down. Really was worth the cost and thinking about adding them to a few other things in the shop such as my drafting table to move the angle of the table. Here is some photos of it and who knows you just might want to build you own.. Gary

Nice piece of kit Gary.I bought two from Ikea for my new "clean" hobby room in the house. They are both 1.6mtres long with sturdy steel frames. There is a winding handle to lift up and down. These are no where near as substantial as yours and I use them for lighter jobs but the height adjustment is a godsend.

Kind Regards

Nigel

This wording I shall not forget, when I talk with my wife:
"Sweet heart, I need a "clean" workshop"
- but I know already, how she will reply:
"than clean your workshop !!!" ;)

But maybe really an alternative with this Ikea-table ..... I will check it out, when I am visiting next time Ikea

By clean Uwe,i mean no heavy cutting/planing/sanding of timber.Doesn't look like the picture nowROTFROTF

The table is well worth a look and available in two different sizes.I liked it in that you can adjust the height based on whether you are seated or stood up.

Kind Regards

Nigel
