I use the tape gauge pretty often when tapering short strips. Sometimes the tapered end of the strip is pretty small and it cuts away the original aluminum stop on the guage end. I ended up filing a smooth 90° angle on the end, then replace it with a piece of hardwood. As that wooden piece gets cut down, I use a sharp blade to remove the remaining wood and CA glue a new piece on.
