The first Panama Canal pilot was named john a constantine. He built a ship model named (of course) the john a constantine. It was built close to 100 years ago and can still be seen at the pilot’s building in balboa. It is approximately 10 feet long. The story is that it fell into disrepair and captain furman saunders spent a year and a half rebuilding it.to his astonishment the interior was fully built including furniture, pictures on the bulkheads etc.
