Lately EBay has various Carta Augusto kits available. In the 60.s their model kits had an excellent reputation . Would it be still feasible to purchase a kit that old .?? Can the wood still be used ??
Carta Augusto was an Italian ship model company in the 60.s and 70,s Some of their more well known models the Friederich Wilhelm and the Soleil Royal .
After their demise Corel was formed and took over some of their product line
Time will have taken its toll on the kits , so I wonder if the wood offered in the kits can still be used or will be to brittle ?? I hope Dave Stevens may offer his expertise here ??
I saw one of their kits on e-bay. The sell it for $149.00 or best offer? The quality of wood may not be that good, but you make buy a good bargain on parts itself. There is plenty of casting and they might worth the money. Take a look below link
This kit is for the 1639 Royal Sovereign. It was destroyed by fire in 1697 in Chatham. Frali Swiss 1100 mm. I DID NOTgo thru every piece of wood to make sure this is complete. Look at the photos to thw quilty of what you are getting.
