Cathead construction in general and Armed Virginia Sloop in particular

I am building a digital model (and maybe the kit also) of the Armed Virginia Sloop

The catheads are L shaped, would they have been made from one solid piece of wood or built up in some way?
There was no need to make the complete cathead structure out of one single tree.
Often they were built with two elements which were bolted together.
Here my solution of my Le Coureur, a french lugger, means also a smaller vessel like yours

thanks, that is what I was looking for, if doesn't make sense that it would be one piece, they would have to find and unusual piece or you would have stressed cross grain, I think I will make it with something like a rabbit joint

again, this image is of the model I purchased from Daz, a good value at $25, or less when it is on sale
I am remaking it to change a few things, add some detail in a couple area
I will post some images of my model when I have it done
