Hi all,
Not everyone’s cup of tea, but starting the Model Shipways Chaperon.
Cruising very quickly through the basic hull build as other builders have a more detailed description.
Managed to start this build from the very beginning unlike my CR lamb build
All good so far.
Next comes the four part deck sections with pre cut joins which leaves a lot to be desired.
We’ll see !!!

Deck on. Four pieces, terrible jointing idea and design but careful tweaking on the joints , sawdust mixed with glue, came out acceptable without adding a layer of decking.
Red oxide rattle can and the joints barely visible.
Main stairway made, albeit wrong orientation. The wall boarding is vertical, should be horizontal. Think I can get away with that. Eeeeek !
My mistake but I made new treads because the supplied ones were a little narrow and looked gappy so did away with them.

I found, as others, that the laser scribing on the supplied deck sheets was inconsistent so using those sheets as a 'sub deck' I planked the deck with 1/8 x 1/32 strips. This so far has worked quite well without any issues with the extra thickness as I continue my build.
My only regret so far is that I didn't purchase the CR Lamb instead of the Chaperon. (Saw your build log on the CR after I had purchased the Chaperon)

Nice to see the start of your new build-log, Neil. Great that it is the build of a paddle steamer!
Regards, Peter

Main stairway completed and temporarily situated to make sure it all fits.
Also, the Chaperon lettering came out better than I expected.
I was dreading that bit.
Enjoying this build also.
The rub rail is proving to be a pain in the neck. The strips are too short to do in two, so a silly little section will have to be fitted somewhere.
